Next to dancing, I love gardening |

Some new little fruit trees I'm planting. Height of expectation, planting trees at my age. |

All my life I've had gardens, both veggies and flowers. I learned at a very young age to plant with the Moon. I plant root vegetables in the Moon's 3rd quarter but I missed it this year so I thought, what the heck, I'll plant in the 1st. No good. The daikon bolted already, meaning all tops and no bottoms. Another reminder that we must respect and live with nature.
Adios Bloggie Friends
I love gardening too. What a fabulous greenhouse. I am jealous. I respect all Nature. There is nothing more important.
ReplyDeleteJJ
DeleteWhy am I surprised that you love gardening. Of course, any one who respects nature loves to watch for each tiny new leaf on plants and trees. Every new leaf will be our friend.
The garden house looks neat, my mum would love that! I know nothing about gardening...it involves stuff
ReplyDeletePoke the Rock
DeleteYour mum is a very wise woman. She loves gardening and you.
Karen
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice compliment that you want to meet me. I would love to meet you too. I'd be your best fan and attend all your gigs.
Good job on keeping your shedule on a lunar calendar. I've been a farm hand for 5 years but I'm terrible at staying motivated for my own garden. Keeping track of the phases of the moon might help.
ReplyDeleteSamuel
DeleteI love astrology anyway so it seems to fill all the little cracks and corners of my life. How interesting that you've been able to work so closely to nature.
I don't garden, but I have a lot of respect for people who do--LOVE your greenhouse!!
ReplyDeleteFishducky
DeleteOh thanks.... it's a small one and I had to leave the big one at the ranch, of course. That one was super.
Nature sure has a way
ReplyDeleteOf having its say
Whether we like it or not
Nice little greenhouse too at your plot
Thank you much, I like it too
DeleteTiz not much larger than a loo
Too bad the big one had to stay
At the ranch, it travels no way!
Your greenhouse is gorgeous. What kind of fruit trees? The Husband and I built short and small veggie boxes for the Mama. That was so fun. Soon, I'll post photos of her backyard jungle growing back in. :-)
ReplyDeleteSu-sieee
DeleteThe raised boxes are so nice. One can sit on the edge and weed or plant. You and the husband were so wonderful to make the boxes.
Su-sieee
DeleteSorry, I didn't answer what kind of fruit trees. I planted 5 trees. 2 peach, a plum, cherry and apple. I know all those fruits grow fairly well in Mt. because I've had them before. In fact I've grown the juciest, sweetest peaches that you have to eat standing over the sink or the juice runs down your arm.
I should've said very, very short--no low--boxes. They're only a foot higher off the ground, so she doesn't bend as low from her bench. :-)
DeleteI like your choices of fruit trees. I wonder if peaches could grow here, but then there's the farmer market. We're dreaming of putting in a fig tree in the front yard. No more room in the back.
Congratulations on your greenhouse, Manzanita. This year I will be planting vegetables in pots. We'll see what happens.
ReplyDeleteJulia
DeleteIt should work well (as long as you don't plant root veggies in the 1st or 2nd quarter Hahaha) Salad greens thrive well though.
I love the look of potted gardens.
Oh look at your lovely greenhouse and the baby plants all growing!!! I like how you synchronise your gardening with the moon too! Yay! Take care

DeleteHelena is so over-run with deer that you have to either plant in a greenhouse or have a very tall fence around your property. I love to watch the deer but they kill trees by striping bark and have the flowers for dessert.
And I didn't think the moon had much in the way of topsoil.
ReplyDeleteMurr
ReplyDeleteHahaha It's not top grade soil and I have a heck of a problem hitching rides to care for the garden.
What a great greenhouse! I love that you plant trees and think about what that means. I think you'll probably live a lot longer than you ever expected. You've done the right things to have longevity.
ReplyDeleteJasmine
DeleteNot only the fruit trees, last year I was really on a tree kick and I was playing around growing trees from seed. I have 3 small seedlings on my kitchen window sill by the sink so I don't forget about them.
Your greenhouse looks terrific. You'll be baking fresh fruit pies before you know it.
ReplyDeleteSusan
DeleteThis house sat vacant for around 7 years and it's been very dry seasons. Some of the trees suffered and I'm trying to bring them back.
Dear Manzanita, I hope to do some gardening this year, but I'm a little late getting started. The weather here has been sporadic. I envy you your greenhouse!
ReplyDeleteDee,
DeleteYou are not late. In the mid-west we never planted our gardens until Memorial Day. But a greenhouse does offer 2 growing seasons. It snowed a couple of times and the inside of the GH stayed around 60.
Good luck with your garden. Keep us informed how it's going.
Absolutely love your little greenhouse!
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right about Nature. It knows when things should be planted - or not!
All the best with your garden. It looks lovely :)
Wendy
DeleteThanks. It is a cutie. Now I want 3 chickens. Hahaha
Your greenhouse looks great! All the best with your trees!
ReplyDeleteInger
DeleteThanks. I really love trees, if I can keep the deer away.
Dear Manzanita,
ReplyDeleteYour greenhouse, your respect for nature and a natural balance is absolutely something I can dig. Dancing and gardening. What a combo. I think I shall go and tiptoe through the tulips :)
Be well, dear lady.
Gary
Gary
DeleteSee, dancing and gardening do go together when you go tiptoeing, of course, a tip-toe isn't really a dance but if you do it rhymically, it's a dance.
Manzanita: That is an awesome greenhouse!! I am sure you have the greenest thumb around. Good luck with your growing season.
ReplyDeleteChuck at Apocalypse Now
Chuck
DeleteNot so green..... sometimes, after digging around in the dirt,, its pretty black. Maybe that counts too. Haha
I love your green house! and there's nothing wrong with planting trees at your age. You may not get the full benefit, but future generations will. I'm sure you'll get to see them reach adult size. I tried to plant according to the moon once, but things didn't work out.
ReplyDeleteRiver
DeleteI wonder what happened with your moon planting. It's when I don't consider the moon that things go awry. I hope I get to taste the cherries, plums, peaches. Apples, not so much. My neighborhood is full of apples and people are always trying to get rid of them.
Sudden change in circumstances meant moving away from that fabulous rich soil garden and everything I'd planted.
DeleteLooks like a great greenhouse. Can't beat nature.
ReplyDeleteJohn
DeleteHarvesting is the fun time.
Have a better green thumb than I
ReplyDeleteHoly ghost Writer
DeleteI think there must be some spiritual connection going on with nature. This sounds dopey but my trees/plants actually communicate with me.
Ooolahlah to the greenhouse! I'd love planting too, that place is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteGood luck w/the rest of what's growing. Sorry to hear you lost some. We lost flowers because it got too darn cold. My fault for being impatient (no pun intended ;) ).
Rosey
DeleteBut it's a good pun, if not meant. I transplanted some inpatiens yesterday. They are so beautiful, they look artificial. Sorry you lost some plants
Your plants are looking GREAT!! Mine look stunted next to yours.
ReplyDeleteTerry
DeleteI keep telling you, you need a little greenhouse like mine. You enjoy your plants so much, you should extend your growing season. Hubs could make one like mine. It's so basic.
Dang. I am having a hard time figuring out this iPAD. I couldn't figure out how to add to the above comment. Anyway..
ReplyDeletei have been thinking I want to plant some fruit trees too. I would love a couple of apple trees
Terry
DeleteThat's why I still have a dumb phone, not smart and I don't want an iPad. I'd spend all my time trying to master the stuff.
We can grow quite a lot of the fruit here but when I lived in Minneapolis, we just had apples and pears. Oh the pears were soooo good. It's really colder in MN and it must be more like PA.
I just LOVE your green house. I am so envious but hesitate getting one due to our high wind and tornado seasons.
ReplyDeletePatti
DeleteBut your weather is milder and if you had a GH, you could grow year round, I bet. It gets pretty windy here too but no tornadoes ........ just earthquakes.
Damn those radishes!
ReplyDeleteSusan
DeleteI ate macrobiotic for around 30 years and I know the old traditional Japanese diet calls for daikon every day. I still eat them although I'm not as strict about my eating as I once was
That is one -awesome- greenhouse! Boy, am I jealous....I wish we had the room, here, for something like that :)
ReplyDeleteThe wife and I are (very) amateur gardeners and always looking for great tips :)
Mark
DeleteI wish I could give you some of my room. This old house sits in the middle of 2 1/2 lots. It's so old it was grandfathered in and the house next door was the bunk house so these two lots are odd size. Way too much land for me to take care of. Reason I was so stiff this AM, yesterday I mowed and weed-whacked all day.
Hi there. What a gorgeous greenhouse you have, and look at all those lovely, healthy looking plants. I think it's wonderful that you are still planting trees!! We have apple blossom on our trees at the moment, and we're hoping that it will stay on the trees. Last year, for the first time in 15 years, we didn't have any apples at all. I know a lot of people that plant by the moon. It certainly seems a natural way of doing things.
ReplyDeletethisisme
DeleteYour yard is so beautiful with all your inviting-looking trees, bushes and flowers. I wonder why you didn't have apples. I bet you missed having them. Apricots grow well here BUT.... they blossom out early and if there is a cold snap afterward, I don't get any apricots, either.
I love your greenhouse. And I had no idea about planting in the 3rd quarter phase of the Moon. I always learn so much every time I visit here.
ReplyDeleteAlso... I left a note on your last post. :tips hat:
Robin
DeleteThe 3rd phase of the Moon is for root veggies. It all ties in with astrology. My grandfather always planted with the Moon but didn't delve into the astrology part.
I'll look. Thanks Robin
Hi Manzanita - fantastic you garden by the moon - interesting to remember, when I start gardening again - need a garden first! Love the green house - looks wonderful .. and I'm sure you'll love seeing the fruit trees flourish ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary
ReplyDeleteI hope you do get the opportunity to garden again if that is your desire. After I published this post, I just heard a program on the value of plants in our life.
It's truly a great and useful piece of information. I am satisfied that you simply shared this helpful information with us. Please stay us up to date like this. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHave a look at my page: New Bingo Sites
What an awesome Green House. I'm still rounding after a-z...with a thought...could you do a Flat Stanley Garden project that I could post, with a link here. It would be a nice way to teach kiddos a bit about the importance of gardening?
ReplyDeleteSadly, I have two black thumbs ... but luckily Pilchard has enough green to keep both of us in vegies, herbs and flowers, although living in the driest state of the driest continent on earth doesn't help ...
ReplyDeleteOh, your greenhouse looks lovely, so neat and cosy! For me, gardening is kind of a soul healing occupation, too! Though, we don't have a garden at the moment, but our indoor and terrace plants have started giving lush foliage and abudant blooms! Tropical plants, pink hibiscus, hoya, pelargonias, zephyrantheses, jasmin and large multicoloured gerberas.... yay! :)
ReplyDeleteI know, it'll be better to plant by moon, but i haven't tried yet.
Good luck to your trees! May they give you lots of juicy and healthy fruits! ;)
