You Are My Sunshine

Last evening, my daughter dropped me off  at my house after we had just come from viewing a neighbor's fabulous gardens. My 8 foot sunflowers greeted me and I doubt if the deer could reach the tops now.  They grew way beyond the chicken wire.

My neighbor's fence that surrounded her yard was an unusual design of iron.  It was straight for 10 feet, then curved out for a 10 ft. expanse and then curved inward in an S-fashion.  It was a gorgeous contour to highlight the brilliant flowers.

Her yard boasted 13 seasonal arrangements so there was color blooming from March to October.  She graciously invited me back today to give me some of her volunteer plants BUT my new Mac is arriving  and I have to be here to sign for it. I'm sure my K and L letters will now work but what panic it is for me to learn a new computer.

I'll go out and get a step-ladder and kiss my sunflowers "good-morning."

Surely you jest. I mean me being in shape. But you should do more because you are already limbered up. I'm still on 12 reps and will be there at least another week.

      I'll send you sunflower seed
I'll have much more than I need
Next spring you can plant outside your door
For Orlin and Cassie while you're at the store
Their tails will twitch as they watch the birds eat
And hoping the birds will be their next treat.

  5. You have once again discovered the angst that follows comparing yourself (or what you have) with another.

"Instead of comparing our lot with that of those more fortunate than we are, we should compare it with the lot of the great majority of our fellow men. It then appears that we are among the privileged." ~Helen Keller

I love your sunflower and have spent this entire summer bemoaning the fact that I didn't think to plant any. So, compare yourself to me (the great majority) and it will surely put a smile on your face.

Not really... sometimes I just need something to write about. Haha You know how that goes. I'd never get down about wanting material things. I'd better re-read what I wrote. It was written at 4 AM. These large sunflowers are really neat. Enough for the birds all winter.

I looked up the song, "you are my sunshine" You can write the poem.:)

Thanks. I think these giant sunflowers are so majestic. Some of them got knocked down by a big hail we had a few weeks ago.

  7. I've always wished that I could grow sunflowers here, but we just don't get the weather for it. It's the old bloom where you're planted idea... just do what you can to brighten your corner of the world and go with the flow. It's all anyone can really do, after all.

I'm trying to figure out these big bopper sunflowers. If the ground gets too wet, they topple over. Maybe I didn't plant them deep enough because they don't have much of a root system. Guess I'll have to look it up.
You are right.... do what we can...

  8. Hey, bet she doesn't have an 8 foot sunflower. Besides, think of all the work she has to put into her garden. However, that fence does sound eye catching.
Each year I mean to grow some sunflowers, not only for the beauty but the seeds for my birds. Somehow I never do. Yours is s dandy.

I'm going to change a couple words in this post. People think I'm really envious or depressed that I can't have something. I'm definitely not. I wrote this at 4 AM and I remember I was searching for words. Must have gone over the "red line." hahaha I'm growing them for the birds for the winter. My neighbor brought over 2 big bags of thistle because she said they don't like her dispenser. They are picky little eaters.

I do work as hard in the yard as she does because I want to reconstruct the gardens that died while the house sat vacant. When I moved to Bozeman, I had the yard landscaped by a design person but I much prefer doing my own. I don't even let a commercial company mow the grass because they a

Somehow my last sentence to you got cut off. I was going to say, the commercial lawn mowers always nick the bark on my new little trees. When they edge, they often whip off plants.. I want to get more organized on the plants so there is constant bloom. I had put the small river rock on all the gardens years ago and now I want them off but after all this time, they have mingled with the cloth and weeds. The only way I can think of getting rid of them is to get down on my knees and pick out the rocks. Slow and boring work but I try to do a little each day. The deer are a huge problem here. Everything has to be fenced.

Your garden is the most beautiful. You have so much space and it is truly magnificent.

It's called Solid Gold Seameal ..... for cats and dogs. You can read about it on Amazon.com. Perhaps I put this in a post or comment but when I got Puss Kitty as a barn cat, I thought she was a short hair cat. I began making her raw food and put a lot of supplements in it. Then I add the Seameal, taurine and some enzymes to each serving. Her improvement was amazing and she is really a long hair cat. Pretty funny, huh?

I always hesitate recommending products to people but I just suggested that Patti (from Arkansas Patti) read about it for her dog who is 16. She has evidently been using it because she just commented on how good her dog is doing now.

Good luck with your daughter's cat.

You have to plant the big sunflower seed. The kind that falls from the bird feeder and sprouts near the feeder is the small kind of seeds. I guess they are black and the big ones are stripe.
