Have you ever started a project and straight from the git-go,
everything went wrong. I don't mean a little glitch here and there
but I do mean "everything." That's what is happening right now
in my garage, as I'm setting up another studio.
First of all, the structure itself is nearly 100 years old and
would welcome a wrecking ball. (Actually the house would
too, but that's another story). What we did to the garage, we
did it twice because nothing worked the first time. The maple
dance floor is half finished and driving the young floor installer
crazy. Well, I guess I'm the one who is driving him crazy because
if there is one thing I really know, it is dance floors. It is the
dance floor I had designed for the Bozeman studio and my son
so graciously took it apart. (Does muttering to himself count?)
My header for the past couple months is the dance floor, as
it waits patiently for installation.
Is that the pinnacle of optimism, building a dance studio at
age 85? I'll be teaching Bliss Work to Senior Ladies. I've
been studying it for the past year by Skype and the beautiful
teacher wants me to teach it here. It is the chance to help older
women as I have been helped by Bliss so I am eagerly approaching
this new endeavor in my life. I will also have the 2nd part of
the class a jazz class. Older ladies STILL like to dance with a
little hootchy cootchty wiggle. LOL
But what the heck, who cares what goes wrong because I have a
new Happy Pill. It's called Boost by touchstone essentials.
Ingredients: Pouchong Tea Extract, Arabica Coffee Bean
Extract, Cocoa Powder Estract. Rhodiola, Rosea Root, and
Garcina Cambogia fruit. WOW now that's a boost!
"Oh Dang! There's another problem you say? Who cares? Just hand me mah happy pill and go fix it. "
I like your attitude. Nothing like dancing to give me a boost,
ReplyDeletePaula
DeleteYou don't really need the "Boost" pill when you're dancing .
With a little hootchy cootchty wiggle? Is that a fact? Well, I'm impressed but not really surprised. You know how to enjoy life and you rock. There, I said it.
ReplyDeleteBlue
DeleteIt's so much fun to teach a group pf senior ladies. They all are good dancers because dancing was three thousand times more popular than it is now. Oh yes.....Hootchy cootchy here we come.
Thank you for visiting, Mr. Blue
What I say shall be true
I think you Rock, too
Why, thank you.
DeleteIf at first you don't succeed, swear at it and try again haha I've had things go wrong, but I'm too stubborn to let them beat me. So there actually is a happy pill, the cat likes to know when he's been validated
ReplyDeletePat
DeleteHe finished installing the floor today but there are some picky little things yet to do. I'm shooting for June 2 as the opening day. Ta-dah.
This company, Touchstone essentials, is one the new hydrotherapist uses for her supplements. (A friend of hers).
The reason she recommended it for me, is to re-set my biological clock, she said. I guess it's an emzyme but all the ingredients are uppers and they really do give a boost. She also has the Teslar lights and the Rife frequency machine. Each is in a special room and I go in with the cat and dog. I hope it's doing something good for them, too.
Who says it's one damn thing after another. It's the same damn thing over and over!
ReplyDeleteI need a happy pill.
Robin
DeleteWe all need happy pills at some time. But did you read the ingredients? Even one of those alone would make one pretty happy and together it's a blast of happiness. LOL
I'd like to try that happy pill, as well as take your class. I could go for a bit of bliss and cootchy-wiggle. A couple of weeks ago, I took a zumba class. It was okay. About half way through, I realized it had too much shimmy and tweaking for my taste. I want something with a bit of mash potato, frug, the swim, pony, watusi, and charleston.
ReplyDeleteSusie
DeleteYou want them all. You should make up your own dances. The dance classes never work for me for losing weight but are just a fun thing. I tried the zumba too and it didn't do much for me, either.
I've been looking at your header for weeks wondering if that's a dance floor waiting to happen.
ReplyDeleteCan I find a little sample of Bliss Work on you tube? I'd like to see what it's all about. I loved Jazz for the few months that I did it, (26 years ago) but I don't think my back is up to it now. Maybe if I started with something gentler to get it moving, iron out the kinks.
River
DeleteThe gal who actually invented the Bliss Work has a new website and I can't find it now. I'll send you the link when I get it. That is what Bliss does..... starts really easy and works it's way into having stronger muscles. (the small muscles, that is) Shortly after I first started the Bliss work, I had 2 days of sadness and regret. It just came upon me and I knew not why or where it came from until I told Juawayne (the teacher). We hide emotional stujff in our bodies and the Bliss exercises open them up so we are able to get rid of them. Then I understood why she called it Bliss. The deeper work one does on the body, it peels away layers of our buried stuff, although that certainly isn't the main objective of it. It's all very interesting and I would be happy to get rid of buried stuff and find Bliss. So far, I've only put an ad on Craigslist and I have one student. I hope to open on June 2.
Manzanita, you are a character!
ReplyDeleteI shall look forward to the forthcoming pics of the renovations. Especially one with you wiggling your hootchy cootchty on the dance floor :)
Wendy
DeleteI've missed you and I thought you were back when I saw your name. Some day soon, maybe, huh?
I'm kind of excited about teaching senior ladies. They are so eager to learn. I'll teach the Bliss for sure and then wait and see what level dancers they are before I choreograph anything.
Are you busy writing?
Very busy writing. Have just sent off half a dozen submissions. And now I wait ... and wait ... and wait.
DeleteOh well, it's all par for the course, I guess.
I shall keep you posted.
Wendy
DeleteI remember waiting. It is a drag and then then if it's a rejection you want to jump off the cliff. I did that in my teens.... I guess I did want to be a writer at one time but that was way before computers and everything went by pony express. Now I just want to be a chicken farmer.
I'm pulling for you to get some positive results.
So all that lumber in your header is a new dance floor!!
ReplyDeleteFishducky
DeleteIt was the dance floor in the studio in Bozeman so my dear son, removed it, board by board. I do appreciate that.
Hey Manzanita,
ReplyDeleteI get a boost just reading your posts. Dance away, dear lady and I bet you look good on the dance floor.
Gary :)
Gary
DeleteThis floor is so special/ I designed it so as to avoid stepping on the jarring coment floor.First, A heavy plastic the floor as a vapor barrier. The next layer is plywood boxes about 2 1/2 in. high with the bottoms open and small tabs of thick rubber, evenly spaced on the bottom. Then the maple wood is on the top and all of that makes it a floating floor that is extremely easy on the knees. Yay for that.
Happy to see you.
Yep! Everything I do around this house. I try to do it myself, which is probably the first mistake. hahaha
ReplyDeleteKaren
ReplyDeleteThe gal who originated this lives and teaches in San Diego. She cured her own old-age deformaties by herself when she was still in her teens and now she is in her 60's. I take Skype lessons from her. She has a new website and I can't find it. I'll let you know when I do.
turquoisemoon
ReplyDeleteYou are fortunate if you can pound a nail. I can't pound a nail at all.
Hi Manzanita - sounds wonderful ... and I love springy floors ... can't dance for toffee - no sense of rhythm .. but love what you're doing - totally inspirational. Congratulations and it'll be fun following along seeing it progress and its installation .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary
DeleteI've had many dance floors and studios in my lifetime and they have all been spiritual to me. When my kids were little I just had a smallish square of wood in the living room for my dancing. Then when my oldest son was 14, he made me a larger dance floor as a Mother's Day surprise. What a treasure of love that was and 48 years ago tomorrow as it is another Mother's day. I guess a few mother's aways need a dance floor. LOL
Thanks for the dear comment.
This sounds wonderful... not the headache part... but about having a dance floor. It's always good to have a project to excite you.
ReplyDeleteKay,
DeleteSo nice of you to visit and comment.
This is a marvelous project. The building is a dump but the floor is beautiful with one wall of mirrors. It feels good too. Must be some old ghosts still hanging around and adding good spirits. Ha
So that is what all that lumber was for? What a neat idea for us oldies to get moving. Hope all your corners square up and it gets rolling soon.
ReplyDeleteHappy pill huh? Might check that out.
Patti
ReplyDeleteNo one ever asked. LOL I thought someone would. The floor installer finished laying the floor yesterday. A few odds and ends and I plan on having classes on June 2. Well, we'll see. Haha
Dance floor at 85? GOOD FOR YOU! I'm almost sure (dare I say...optimistic?) that I will have that same attitude when I'm lucky enough to reach 85. I darn well better.
ReplyDeleteAl
DeleteI'm positive you will too. And you used the right word. Much of it is attitude.
I tell people that, as long as I still have my mind (well, what passes for one), I'll be okay. Probably the goofiest one at the rest home, but okay.
DeleteHi there, Just stopping by to say “Happy Mother’s Day” to you. I’m sure you are having a fabulous day. I celebrated yesterday when one of my sons and his beautiful wife came to see us….
ReplyDeleteAs you probably know, we’ve been out-of-town this past week and I haven’t done any blogging much at all. I hope you enjoyed my two Tulip blog posts while we were gone——and be sure and tune in tomorrow morning to find out what we’ve been doing this past week….
Enjoyed your post today.
Hugs,
Betsy

DeleteAnd we can always see the fruits of your vacations. I am always amazed at all of your fowers. You must constantly work in your gardens. My flower bed are so minimal and yet, they take up most of my summer days. We've had some really warm days but the past few nights are chilly so I've put a heat lamp in the greenhouse for the new little peppers and strawberries.
Big congrats to you on the upcoming teaching gig. I think it's awesome. I hope they get your floor just right, and soon too. :)
ReplyDeleteRosey
DeleteThanks. The floor is layed and I had forgotten what a beautifu floor it is. The 2 huge mirrors I had transferred from the house, so we have nearly one wall of mirrors. Today ballet bars go in, also transferred from the house and a ceiling track goes along the walls. The least expensive way to hide shelves, etc and things along the walls is to buy the painter's large fabric drop cloth and attatch to the snaps on the track. You can pull them to be either open or closed and they look neat. I discovered these "many dance floors" ago. Haha. Then just little additions like coat hooks, bulletin board benches etc. and I already have most of these things too. I really already had most of the studio furnishings so my budget was set at a "shoestring" and I made budget. LOL I should be President of U.S.
I would vote for you!!! :)
DeleteSounds like a huge undertaking. Best of luck, happy pills you say, could use one today, lol
ReplyDeleteTrying to keep the momentum of a to z going.
Sandy
DeleteGood idea. Can't let all that info go to waste. One of those Happy Pill Day's, huh? I'm actually taking it for a specific reason that I don't quite understand. (by an ND) But, if this is medicine, I like it. LOL
You will never grow old with these plans happening!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could take the Happy Pill! Nearly everything in it is on my migraine list, sadly.
Susan
DeleteMy ND gal is having me take the pills for a reason that I don't quite understand but the effect is so grand ..... so who cares???? lol
I really hope to help some senior ladies as I have been helped with the Bliss exercises. No charge, only a donation basket where the money goes to the animal shelter. Most people like that.
Susan
ReplyDeleteDo you mean these things cause a migraine for you?
What a wonderful new project, dear Manzi!! I agree, the age doesn't exist, it's all about attitude and healthy lifestyle! Your Happy Pill sounds intriguing... do you buy it or mix the ingredients yourself?
ReplyDeleteZara
ReplyDeleteIt's a commercial pill that my Health Provider in Bozeman suggested I take. I think it's for the hormones but it also has "Happy Ingredients." I like the happy feeling it gives me.
Yes, I took the floor from the studio in Bozeman when I moved from there. It's now in the garage and that is a beautiful floor. I'm getting into a lot for this summer and I'll probably be tearing my hair out. Haha
:)) best of luck to you! What could be better than to be fully involved into activities you truly LOVE!! ツ ✌
DeleteZara
DeleteIt's truly great fun. I now have ads in the papers and a few flyers and I've had many sign up already. First class is June 2 on a Tuesday. Come dance with us. Do you suggest any good music?
Omg, that's superb! If only we lived near, i would be the first one to come! Music, well, i am a single-minded specialist, you know - only Arabic and Pakistani music is what i can advice. :)) So, if you would do an oriental party, i'll be here with all my advices! ;)
DeleteKeep me posted! ✿
So glad I stumbled across your blog. It was fun to read your post. My sons lived in Boseman for awhile. I love that part of the country. I think it's great that you're following your Bliss, no matter what your age. I just turned 71, feel great, and try to keep active and healthy. Good luck with the dance floor!
ReplyDeleteBarb
DeleteSo nice to meet you. I checked your blog and your photography is truly lovely and exciting. Deep inside, I don't really think I'm old. I had many calls today from women who want to sign-up. I advertised it for Senior Women and it was interesting. So far, I'm still the oldest and those in their 60's/70's kept saying they were too old. Then I'd tell them how old I am and there was silence. I probably scared half of them away. LOL I first started thinking of age when I turned 80 but that got me nowhere so I dismissed it.
I might have to come visit you and eat some happy pills with you. Missing you!
ReplyDelete'Terry
DeleteThey're not THAT kind of happy pill. Actually they are a hormone. Maybe for my fat belly. I'll be glad when the classes begin because I need my 2 naps a day. Surprising how much better life is with a nap. Haha
Well shoot, I thought maybe we could take some happy pills and I did mean happy pills
DeleteDance on, Manzi. You are an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteJJ
DeleteI keep seeing "Red Shoes" over and over on TV. I would not have chosen the guy nor would I have jumped over the cliff. Some women just don't know a good thing.
The way you write is such flowing. Keep writing. http://www.bellofpeace.org
ReplyDeleteYou made me smile with the comment you posted on my blog yesterday...about my 75th birthday. You are the most delightful 85 year old I have ever known, next to my currently 90 year old aunt in Arizona. I hope I can be as young and optimistic as you are ten years from now, when I'll ONLY be 85!!!!!
ReplyDeleteANN
DeleteThanks and I'm happy if i can make you smile. LOL
And keep dancing, AND laughing....LOL
ReplyDeleteAnn
DeleteLaughing is of the greatest importance. I can see humor in so many things that I never even noticed before S.S. LOL
You are an inspiration to so many..who says you cannot still follow dreams..I say put on your happy feet and dance away to the beat. I am sure you can overcome any obstacles. Wishing you success...
ReplyDeleteJust stopping by to see how you are doing.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Guess who's in my show today, showing her moves.... HERE
DeleteThat sounds like a mega dose of caffeine! Dancing is something I do on very rare occasions, following the mantra to 'dance as if no-one is watching', but my hips always give me gyp the next day!
ReplyDeleteThe floor looks great.
I saw you were starring as Miss Dance-a-Lot on Blue's new movie, lol! Nice crew he's got set up over there for his upcoming flick. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhy, thank you.
DeleteI'm having a tiny issue I cant seem

ReplyDeleteHahahaha Yeah.... it's always a good idea to stay away from blogs that disappoint brilliant minds like yours.
ReplyDeleteYou are my new hero! I am so glad I stumbled on your blog today. I love dancing. I've danced since I was a little girl, all through high school and college. Sadly, I don't go anywhere or dance except at concerts, etc. I always dreamed of having a dance studio. I love that you teach and the donations go to animal shelters.
ReplyDeleteI really could use one of those pep me up happy pills!!!
