W is For Warm-up

Posting daily for the April A-Z Blogging Challenge. Today is W. My theme is Flamenco.

W is For Warm-up

Every dancer needs to warm-up the muscles before starting to dance. Flamenco dancers use arms, hands and shoulders throughout a dance so we strengthen and lengthen the muscles. In the video below, I am the one in the long pants leading a student. The music is an original modern Flamenco piece by Paul Renslow, guitarist.

Warm-ups are repetitive and rather boring. You are welcome to click on the video for a few seconds or not at all if you're in a hurry to get to blogs.

  1. You know what, Manzi, those make great stretching exercises for sitting too long at the computer and banging on the keyboard. Seriously. I just tried them. Much relief in my shoulders and fingers right now. Thank you. :-) I wish I lived near you so I could take lessons.

  5. Cool hand motion. It looks a little like what hula dancers do.

  6. I love your "Bye bye" at the end! :-)

Awww warm-ups are so essential!! But your warm ups are far more graceful than the ones I do before my aerobics session!!! Lovely! Take care

  8. Su-sieee : I wish you did too (live near). It would be fun to dance together.

My baby John : If you do the stretches.... Make the stretch of the arms from your back. Pull those back muscles forward and it will extend the arms forward at least a couple of inches.

Terry : Thanks for following Flamenco. Only 3 left. Now it feels like it went fast. :)

Clare : Hey Clare, how are you? Thanks for stopping by.

Teresa : You said it exactly. There is a lot of strength in the arms but it doesn't look like it.

Angela : The difference, I guess they tell a story. Flamenco doesn't.

Kitty: Aerobics are such great body shapers.

  9. I wonder if it is common for dancers to develop arthritis or tendonitis. How sad it must be to have sore joints. I am blessed that I don't have that problem, but my hubby does have painful hands and knees. Too bad.

  15. Stretching and warm up is crucial before any workout. A cool down, too. These are much more graceful than what I usually do.

  18. Gigi: You are one lucky duck (as we used to say when we were kids) to be pain free. I feel bad for people with sore joints.

Carol: Very similar. When I was young and taking Classical Spanish, we had an hour of ballet before class.

Anna: Yes and the muscles move better and better. :)

    Bish: I'm laughing.

  19. Susan: So happy you stopped by.

Fishducky: I never get bored doing it but I think it's often too repetitious for people to watch.

M Pax ;Bend and stretch, work out and cool down. An athletes story. :)

    Susua : Thank you

Laura : you are right. This is basic ballet, really.

Thank you for stopping and your wonderful comments.
