Ohhh, look at those beauties!! I've only seen bucks in person twice, and both times were fleeting because they ran away...and look you've got three of them all together, that's awesome (even more awesome if they didn't mess up your flowers and trees ;) ).
My husband woke me up the other night to have a peek outside where two deer were curled up sleeping RIGHT outside of our back door.
This was the first time I've seen 3 bucks together like that so I ran for my camera. They strip the bark from threes and eat the flowers. They won't eat columbine or Russian Sage, I know that. Right outside your door..... that must have been cute. But you are trying to grow a garden. I hope they don't get into that.
We have so many critters to destroy my gardening efforts (I could list them all but it would take up too much bandwidth ;) ). Seeing three bucks like that would almost be worth a ruined garden. Really. I'm still marveling.
Yes...they certainly are "The Wild Bunch"!!! I don't have that problem here, but I'm sure they could cause mayhem in a person's yard. I only have squirrels...troublesome for bird feeders. Lucy, my Cairn Terrier, is learning to guard against them.
They certainly are much more handsome than my voles but seems they cause a lot more damage. I would be tempted to plant their favorites in hopes they would leave my stuff alone. Probably wouldn't work. Hasn't worked with the voles.
Patti, I can't imagine which is worse, the deer or the voles. One above the ground and one under the ground. I've planted the 2 things I know they don't like but I want more color. Hahaha
Yeah Mark I outta be on the stage and there's one leaving in 10 minutes. vroot vroot Thanks.... it's just great to be alive and act as silly as one wants, huh?
Jasmine You and Patti have the same problem. She calls them voles but must be the same. As I said to her.... one problem is on top of the ground and one is under the ground. But what to do with either???
thisisme Oh dear,if they like a certain plant, they eat all the leaves and then strip the bark off trees. Helena (this city) is over run with deer because people have built into the mountains so they started coming into town. The deer that are born in town are very tame and quite photogenic but really a pain in the butt.
My Hubs would glady come take care of your deer problem if needed. LOL. I showed him the pictures and he wants to know if you want the venison after he's done with them.
I'm no expert but I think chicken wire was meant to keeps chickens in place. These guys look a little too tough for chicken wire...I would go with hog wire!
Chuck They don't try to get into a fence. There is enough greenery for them to eat but when they see a plant on the nibbling journey, they just eat it. But if they really wanted to gain entrance, I agree, hog wire. Haha
Dear Manzanita, those racks are impressive and the deer wearing them look majestic. Ah, Mother Nature. We just aren't able ever to improve on her. Peace.
haha.... not loo but look. I really need a new computer .... the k doesn't work unless I push extra hard but I haven't had time to order a new one with the ranch getting sold.
Red It isn't their aim to get "into" any special place. It is that they walk along and nibble the plants as they pass by. I just wish I had a fence around my entire yard but it's 2 1/2 lots.
Oh, Manzi: those three are amazing! But having them around does have drawbacks, and requires certain precautions. I think you have that matter in hand.
Rob They add a placid look to the landscape but a lot of extra fencing is required. I feel they have a right to be here because the county allowed the mountain to be carved up for huge houses and that was their home. For years they stayed on the mountain and everyone was happy.
Hey Gary, Forgive you??? Forgive me, because I haven't been around to anyone's blog in almost 2 weeks. I have to have everything out of the ranch (including all buildings) so that means working my butt off. Hi Ho, Hi Ho..... The Canadian or American bucks took me a while. Good one!!!

DeleteLucky Lucy......That makes her feel useful and important.
For pesty squirrels, I have a little live wire trap. I catch them and take them for a ride to the woods for a change of address.
for us it is not so much deers but bulls that are breaking out and trample through your yard.
ReplyDeletePoke the rock
DeleteOMG Bulls are big with big feet. They could really mess up a garden.
Thanks, Karen.
ReplyDeleteThey just want a snack
ReplyDeleteat your shack
Nice and free
Grown so green by thee
They call them beauties, not by me
ReplyDeleteThey can be pests as you can see
A slingshot would be mighty fine
If I could aim for their behind.
I'm loving the comments in rhyme!! LOL! Take care
ReplyDeletex
You could bop into Pat Hatt's "It's Rhyme Time." Almost everyone comments in rhyme. It's also written by a CAT. I know you like to rhyme, too.

Beautiful header picture!!
ReplyDeleteFishducky,
DeleteKinda glares at one, like a big pansy eye.
LOL....very punny! :)
ReplyDeleteI can hear the trombone in the background (wahhh-wahhhhhh!)
Great picture, though!
Yeah Mark

I guess I'd rather stick to dealing with our pesky moles! Good thing you still have your sense of humor. :)

Deer can strip a garden in one night. We had dogs on the farm that kept that from being too much of a problem.
ReplyDeleteSusan
DeleteYeah, Cody would love to get out and get at them but the bucks can kill a dog and Cody is too dumb to know that. Haha
hahahahaha. Now that's what I call good pun. They are handsome guys. Hope the chicken wire keeps 'em out.
ReplyDeleteThey are really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMurees
DeleteThe bucks are handsome but they get mean, especially when it's their season. The doe deer is really sweet and the ones in town are tame.
They look very handsome, but I can imagine the damage they could do to your garden! Good that you managed to capture them with your camera.

Lucky we don't get them round where I live in the UK. Passing through on my roadtrip.

DeleteHahahaha I bet he could. I laugh at all the people who tramp around all day to find a deer. I could just tie one up.

They're beautiful. I guess it'd be considered politically incorrect to say they also look quite tasty, huh?
ReplyDeleteSusan
DeleteI agree. My blog thrives on political incorrectness. :)
Hi Manzanita .. gorgeous pansy and that colour ..
ReplyDeleteThe handsome bucks .. I hope they get to live long lives, but I'd be happy to share Susan's roast if one just happens to go her way!
Cheers Hilary
Hilary
DeleteIt's so easy to eat the meat but difficult to associate it to the jumping-around live animal. Don't ever name them. Haha
Love the play on words haha. And they are so beautiful!! I see doe all the time around here but never bucks.
ReplyDeleteKeith
DeleteI suppose bucks make a more challenging target for hunters and then they display the rack.
Dear Manzanita, those racks are impressive and the deer wearing them look majestic. Ah, Mother Nature. We just aren't able ever to improve on her. Peace.
ReplyDeleteDee
DeleteIndeed they are majestic but so destructive to live with
It's a shame the chicken wire is needed, but I can see why. The deer are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI think so too. I plant beautiful flowers but then have to loo at them through this ugly chicken wire.
DeleteBlattt.
haha.... not loo but look. I really need a new computer .... the k doesn't work unless I push extra hard but I haven't had time to order a new one with the ranch getting sold.
DeleteThe buck stops here!
ReplyDeleteGood one..... but only if there is a cute little doe batting those big eyes.
DeleteHahahaha!!! And chicken wire will keep them out???

I'm guessing they would strip a garden bare in minutes. Love that pansy up on top.
ReplyDeleteRos
ReplyDeleteThey can and they do. They seem to love the soft petals of the flowers as a dessert to go with the green leaves. Ha ha but ain't funny.
I love deers! I know they can be a problem, but I've always been lucky. My daughter loves watching them.
ReplyDeleteJulia
DeleteWhat I dislike the most about them is that they strip the bark from trees and the trees die. I've lost 6 big trees to deer.
Oh, Manzi: those three are amazing! But having them around does have drawbacks, and requires certain precautions. I think you have that matter in hand.

Manzanita,
ReplyDeleteForgive me for my late arrival in commenting. I think bonus points are in order for me commenting at gone three thirty in the morning :)
Canadian or American bucks?
Hope you are having a peaceful long weekend, y'all.
Gary :)

Hello, dear Manzi!
ReplyDeletewe haven't talked for such a long while, missing you!
...well, apart from some certain problems they may caus, they are just cute! They came into your garden?? I saw deers only in zoos :)
Dear Zara
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of you, only just this morning. I haven't been able to post much lately because the ranch has to be empty very soon.
They're nice to look at, but not so nice when they're eating your garden.
