Summer went by fast. I already smell autumn in the early morning air. I haven't even had a chance to wear my "Pretty Woman Dress." Remember the movie, "Pretty Woman," when Julia Roberts went to the polo match wearing that brown polka-dot dress. I found the identical dress on a rack and it fits me perfectly. Only in Montana, we aren't fancy enough for polo and the dress just ain't the rodeo type.
I don't know what's happening up on the mountain. Cody and I were entering the trail head and a big warning sign was stuck in our path. It said there is mountain lion activity and to enter at our own risk. It also gave the rules (ha) to follow if one appears. No thanks. Cody would think it's just a friendly pussy cat and want to play. We have always been aware of bears and mountain lions in the area but this is the first official warning I've seen. Back to walking the fair grounds.

Thank goodness they had a sign up! Mountain lions are certainly not something you want to run into when you're just trying to enjoy a walk. We have coyotes here this year, I've never seen them before now.

I can't agree w/you on the summer weather, I'm lamenting over it slipping away so quickly. It was downright chilly this morning, so much so I thought about digging around for my slippers (in July!).

You described it perfectly. What I want exactly. So happy not to have a pool since we left Florida. Who needs to soak in chlorine and fluoride? I get enough of that when I shower. The pool boy who works in a bikini was OK, though. Haha
I have lots of posh dresses in my wardrobe with no opportunity to wear them. Maybe we should all meet up for a bloggers dinner and we could give our outfits an airing.

DeleteWish we all lived closer. That would be a grand idea. We could all get dressed up once in a while for some special event. It wouldn't have to "be" special but we could make it special by getting together and our dresses would stop crying in the closet.
That was THE dress, the only one I remember from the entire movie, which I have seen more than once. We have bears at our altitude, black bears, but the mountain lions usually stay higher up. Better be safe than sorry, so fairgrounds for a while, I guess. I'm also tired of summer, but we planted our vegetable garden so late, that I better not complain about summer lingering well into October/November here.

DeleteIsn't it odd, we are getting all the intense heat and you are getting all the rain. Last summer was the same horrible heat. That is very strange. We never had hot weather for such a long time. Perhaps a week and that is all. And I don't think it's "climate change."

That sign would do me in. I'd stay to the inhabited areas at least till they take the sign back down. Dogs don't really know when they are out gunned.

Strange that we have had all the heat this summer and you've had cool. Crazy.
Bears and lions you do live life on the edge, we do have spiders and snakes that can kill you but they are not big and pretty shy so you are pretty safe if you don't tread on them and always were gloves int he garden.

DeleteI can do a rodeo easily enough as there are rodeos every weekend, except I'm not a great fan of rodeos.
I guess I'm not familiar with roasting of the chilis but it sounds good to me.

I once stayed in a campground over night arriving very late only to find warning signs for cougars in the bathrooms in the morning. We were so poor and hadn't traveled in so long that we risked it and stayed one more night. No wonder it was the only open campground in the area!

DeleteCampgrounds seem to attract wild animals and even packs of wild dogs. (The dogs can be very frightening too) I've run up against bob cats (guess they are smaller) in camp grounds in the southern states. They are scary too.

Perhaps conditions have been harsh and the mountain lions are venturing down in search of food for themselves or their cubs.
ReplyDeleteOur Aussie summer is "officially" from December 1 to February 28, but the heat usually drags on all through March and April, sometimes well into May, so that takes care of our Autumn too. I've always had enough of summer by about Christmas time.
Did you get the hat that goes with that dress? And I agree with Merle, wear it to a cafe and sit outside for a coffee or a milkshake.

I do have a straw hat almost like the one she wore. I love that style straw hat. Actually the dress is fairly plain and could be worn anywhere, even sitting having coffee. Haha

This has been one hot summer for us! I have done a great deal of fishing this season and even the water is hot. I have never seen a mountain lion in the wild (thank God), but I understand it is the one big predator that just might stop his attack and run if you pick up a stick, stand tall, and yell. Of course, most people would probably have a heart attack first.

ReplyDeleteThen one would not be very tall if they are prone on the ground. The instructions on the warning notice said to raise your arms so you do appear taller. Hikers should always carry a gun and don't put it down when nature calls. That is about the time a mountain lion would appear, Haha.

Too much of it has seemed like fall...I want summer with bright sun (dark and gloomy again today and more rain), I want more long days and daylight. The thought of shorter, darker, gloomy indoor days makes me grumpy. We've only had maybe 30 days of what I call summer...not enough. Bears...not good, stay safe.

My yard..... although I love it, love it, love it..... is driving me a bit crazy because I still have furniture from the ranch to dispose of. When the dark days come, I'll get out my vitamin D lamp and become a famous flamenco choreographer. Or maybe I'll buy a Brothers Project runway sewing machine and become a chic fashion designer or maybe I'll just be a slob in my sweats and wait for spring. Ha.... time will tell.

ReplyDeleteNo I live in the mountains in western US and we usually have about a week of hot weather during the summer. For the past 2 years we have had extreme heat during most of the summer. Today promises some relief as the predicted temp is 88. Yay.... cooler weather.

ReplyDeleteIt's so very cool that your hubby owned the Senators, although I must say, they weren't exactly my favorite team. I remember one game in particular they played against the Orioles. It was the ninth inning, and the O's... MY O's... were leading by three. Senators were at bat, two outs and bases loaded. The Senators put in a pinch hitter, and my father and I were like, "Who's that guy?" After "that guy" smashed a grand slam, we said we'd never forget his name... but of course, I've forgotten it. But I'll never forget that game, because a pinch hit won the game. Da bum didn't even have the decency to hit the ball to where I was sitting in the stands...

Neat that you remember that game. 2 outs and bases loaded..... can't get any more exciting than that. And people say baseball is boring. If Calvin were alive, he'd remember the name of the pinch hitter. He could recall every player of all the leagues. I think he remembered every game.
