Take a veteran to lunch.
I'm going to write a short post about change. Not the hope and change that was promised with the present government administration because that is coming along nicely. I just want to mention change in general. Change doesn't agree with me. My across the street neighbor is moving this week and I am sad to see her leave. I guess good neighbors are luck of the draw and I have been absolutely blessed with the best neighbors one could ever wish for. It will feel like a big void in my life when Judy closes the door for the last time on her comfortable brick house. We have come to know each others habits so well and in that way we tend to look out for each other.
I say, "good neighbors will last forever, if they don't move away." lol
Do you have good neighbors?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As many of you know, Flamenco has been my thing for most of my life. My granddaughter sent me a card with this picture on the front. I go into hysterics every time I look at it. |
It is always sad to see good neighbors go, but good to see bad ones go lol! But on a serious note, change can certainly be difficult sometimes that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteKeith
DeleteHaha.... if they are bad, we do want them gone. Here's hoping I get good ones and they don't park big trailers or those recrerational vehicles on the street.. That is annoying.
The card is great, and we're lucky to have really good neighbors too, on every side! I hope your new neighbor is a gem as well. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Veterans Day.
Rosey
DeleteMe too. I wish we could hand pick our neighbors. I try to be a good neighbor. I don't let Cody bark when she's outside.
I'm happy you have good neighbors as well.
Hi Manzanita .. sadly life does change as we go along - we lose old friends and make new ones - I hope.
ReplyDeleteLoved the card .. cheers Hilary
Hilary
DeleteWe always hope for the most wonderful neighbors and then we get them. I have to remember that. Thanks for the good advice.
Hahhaha.... that card is perfect for you.
ReplyDeleteWhen it's time to change, we've got to rearrange our whole thought process. Maybe a really nice neighbor will move in.
Terry
DeleteI'm sure the neighbor will be a nice one but Judy always looked at my bedroom window shade when she went to work in the morning. I always open the shade when I get up but if it was still closed she would call me to see if I was OK.
Isn't that card a hoot
One of the saddest things about being the military is that I meet good people. But, then one of us leaves.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I never would have met them in the first place.
So, I'm good with that.
Yes,
DeleteMilitary people move around a lot. I'm such a home body and I don't like to travel but my husband was always adding new houses in different parts of the country and we would travel from one to another. Can't really have friends, gardens, belong to clubs, pets are difficult. This old house I live in now was usually our summer place so we've known these neighbors for a very long time.
Hmmm, this is interesting. After an hour or so, I've come back to my desk and your comments page was open on my screen. I could've sworn I'd written a comment before I left, but I see none. This has been me lately -- discombobulated. Hope your new neighbor will be as nice as the one who just left. I get that way too about gentle neighbors who leave. :-)
ReplyDeleteSusie
DeleteI do that a lot, too. Or I write and don't punch publish. You've lived in your house a long time too, haven't you.
The Husband and I have been living with the Mama 10 years now. That went by quickly. The Mama has lived in her house 27 or 28 years, and except for us, all alone. She is quite amazing. :-)
DeleteWe just moved into this house almost a year ago now. We have been blessed with excellent neighbors. I know that one of them is talking about moving when her husband gets out of the military. That will be sad:(
ReplyDeleteRobin
DeleteIt is sad..... when we have to move or have our good neghbors move away. I'm happy you found a neighborhood with pleasant people. I moved from Bozeman because I felt such a void in the neighborhood. Loved the house but it also has to be in a comfortable spot, for me.
We, too, have been blessed with good neighbors--most of the time!!
ReplyDeleteFishducky
DeleteA neighborhood of happy people who get along together blazes with energy.
I have always had good neighbours some have become very close friends some move away and you never see them again.
ReplyDeleteBut my experience with the ones that moved out a couple of months ago next door, I was glad to see them go as you know the house was pulled down and is being rebuilt they were distructive and very noisy.
I guess you will strike a bad one sometimes.
Merle.......
Merle
DeleteIt will be interesting to see who your new neighbors will be in the house that is just being constructed.
I have wonderful neighbours!! Well I did have until a couple of months ago when two of my bestest neighbours decided to move! :-( Now us who are left are wondering who the new people will be like!
ReplyDeleteTake care
x
Kitty
DeleteIsn't Charlie always going to the neighbors? So you will have 2 new neighbors. Hope they are special and love Charlie and Gumtree.
Aaaw, I'm sorry to hear that your good neighbour is leaving, Manzi. I do hope that you get a good one in her place. It really can make such a difference. That flamenco postcard was brilliant !!
ReplyDeletethisisme
DeleteThanks. Neighbors make such a difference for me. I loved the house in Bozeman but the neighborhood was unsettling. The people planted grass only. No trees or gardens or flowers and they barely spoke to one another. I'm happy to be back here, even though the house is weird. :)
I don't know my neighbors.
ReplyDeleteIt is my fault because I lived here for a year and did not make the effort to contact them.
I used to have great neighbors where I lived before.
Julia
DeleteI don't socialize with my neighbors (maybe a little) but it feels friendly when we are all outside at the same time. I hope you get to know your neighbors.
At least you got to know
ReplyDeleteHere at your show
And at least not a bad neighbor too
Those you want to pelt with kitty poo lol
Apartments I know more than i want to know
As at night some can ummm crow
Pat
DeleteYes we've been there too
Often feels more like a zoo
Pelt neighbors with kitty poo?
Twood definitely be something new
Hahaha
The card is positively precious!
ReplyDeleteMy neighbours are lovely, albeit we don't see them much. Perhaps that's why :)
Wendy
DeleteThat could be a good thing. Moderation makes the best neighbors. lol
Thans.. The card make me laught whenever I look at it.
When we first moved into this neighborhood, we were the family with kids and a pool. Now we are the grandparents (still with the same blankin' pool) who see the neighborhood's children grown from birth to skateboards. We are the old folks....
ReplyDeleteSusan
DeleteThe time flys as years go by. Look back and it was like a blink of the eye. I've never liked pools either. Don't like all the chemicals that pools need
A peaceful, hopeful Veterans Day, Remembrance Day.
ReplyDeleteHappy hysterics, my friend :) As for my neighbours, I got the bad ones evicted and mostly, I have good neighbours. I wont allow bad neighbours ruin a positive environment.
DeleteBad neighbors bring bad energy. You are clever to be rid of the energy-suck ones. Here's to much waving as you pull out of your driveway.
I love that card!!
ReplyDeleteMy neighbours are okay, I don't know them well, I've never known any neighbours well, but they're mostly quiet like me, yet available if you need someone or something. I suppose if I stay here long enough I may get to know them a little better, but I'm a private type, so maybe not. I don't think I'll ever get to the "drop in for coffee and cake" stage. It just isn't me.
River
DeleteThanks. You described what I want in neighbors too. It would drive me crazy is they dropped in and out of my house during the day. But they wave, smile and say "hi" when we meet outside. My neighbors in Bozeman , where I've been living, wouldn't even turn their head in my direction when I met them on the street. I call that "unfriendly."
Know mine well enough I guess
ReplyDeleteJohn
DeleteThere are times when "well enough" is just right.
I have always had great neighbors even having moved a lot in my life. To my right we are mostly honk and wave types plus share our produce. Those to my left I am closer. They check every morning to see if my light comes on. We are regular hangers over the gate to chat and phone call types. I really feel blessed.
ReplyDeletePatti
ReplyDeleteI've seen your vast yard in pictures and it looks like your neighbors are far enough away to give you privacy. I like that. That is so great to have someone check when you live alone. That is what Judy and I did for each other. You are blessed for that.
I know mine but they don't know I'm the holy ghost writer
ReplyDeleteHoly
DeleteIt's a name that will bring you fame.
Sometimes I forget that not everyone embraces change. I guess I'm lucky in that most big changes in my life have been for things being so much better.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to let go of friends, especially those you have become close to. I do hope your future neighbor is a good one.
I live on a cul-de-sac and I am a pretty helpful neighbor when needed. I try not get into people's business when they don't want me to. One guy on our block is so bad that everyone else says mean things about him. He lives right next door to me and nobody knows how I can stand it. I tread lightly and smile. He tried to get into it with me once over where I planted a tree. I just walked away. My other neighbors are all pretty good so I don't let one bad apple get to me!
Jasmine
DeleteYour neighborhood sounds interesting. One bad apple. Ha You found the right formula for getting along with him. I've moved a lot in my lifetime and run into my share of bad apples but I found something that worked for me too. At first I let them "get" under my skin but then once I said, "You're right." I guess that is all they wanted because after that they were good neighbors. People are often strange. I guess you should be able to plant your trees where ever you want.
Oh yes, I have many good neighbors here in Hawaii and many more in Illinois who I miss. I love that card too. Too funny!
ReplyDeleteKay
ReplyDeleteI bet it was especially difficult when you first had to leave all your good friends in Illinois. You most likely left many, many ... because you are social and gregarious. Happy Wednesday
Manzie: What an interesting post! How different we all are. I think our government is declining nicely. I love change, but I also love tradition. I think taking a veteran to lunch is a great idea. This post is related to what I posted today. I do ponder these things.
ReplyDeleteJJ
DeleteYou know I agree with you. A little sarcasm. I know that you love to travel too and I would have been perfectly happy if I never had to leave my own real estate. Especially now, one can visit other lands and cultures by movies and YouTube. I will pop over to see you as I haven't been on line much. Cleansing again. Thanks for your input.
Most of my neighbours are of the quiet persuasion in that if we meet (in the street) we will exchange small talk. Sad that friendliness seems to be a dying art...everyone caught up in their all live...
ReplyDeleteMy immediate neighbours (to the left) are wonderful and we help each other out without being asked. To the right, the neighbours run hot and cold.
It is sad that your neighbour is to move away.
Anna :o]
Anna
DeletePeople don't have the time or take the time to chat anymore. That's OK but I always like a neighborhood where you know each person well enough to wave at them and a smile will warm their day. I'm glad you have neighbors you can relate to. I think of national disasters and how comforting it must be to now your neighbors. Thanks for the visit and the comment.
I'm not a huge fan of change, either. As for neighbors, we've had some terrific ones over the years, and once upon a time, a bunch of us used to socialize on weekends and holidays. Unfortunately, all of the ones from the "old days" have either moved away, divorced, or died. We're the only old-timers left in the neighborhood, which has changed a lot over the years. Now, there are a lot of rentals, and/or people who only stay for a year or two. We're on a smiling/nodding/ saying howdy basis with them, but that's about it.
ReplyDeleteSusan
ReplyDeleteEverything seems to go in cycles. During the period when my kids were young, most mothers did not work. It was the transition period when the feminists were trying to alter the family structure. (They did succeed) But at that time when women were home all day, there was more social contact in neighborhoods. It seems as more women went into the work force, they had no need to socialize and the friendly neighborhoods fell by the wayside. All the women in my neighborhood work outside the home, now, except me. I enjoy the week days when I have the neighborhood all to myself. Hahaha
Sounds like your neighbors are "just right," right down the middle.
