It Was Sunday Morning

Car exhausts linger low in the air and the snow
 has a definite squeaky crunch.
Hoarfrost covers the power lines and fences. You
KNOW it's cold. The outdoor thermometer registers
8 degrees. I pad around the kitchen in sheepskin slippers,
wearing cotton flannel PJ's from Vermont Country Store
Catalog, as I dish out breakfast for the critters.

"Thank you, thank you." A beautiful cold Sunday that
gives me reason for going back to bed and reading. A
whole glorious day of reading from that exciting pile
of unread books beside my bed. For one thing, I'm
reading my way through the presidents, in no special
order. Look out Jackson, here I come.

I go back in my bedroom and close the door to all
distractions. I snuggle down into a warm comforter and
grab a book from the unread pile. I deserve this.

How was your Sunday?

  1. I had a lazy Sunday. For the past 3 weekends I had a lot of stuff to do so this one I took one off for myself. Felt really relaxing.

Good way to go on a Sunday, huh? I'm happy you took one Sunday off other wise, there seems to be no definition to the week. Ha Now, have an exciting week.

  2. Look at you being lazy at your zoo, that is rare as you're always go go go at your lair. Way to be when the cold sets in at your sea. I was on the internet that you can bet

    1. Pat,
Yes, I would bet on it and win a ton of dough at it. If for one day you did not go on the internet, it would close down, so I'd know where you were..... at lease not on the computer. LOL
It felt delicious to do nothing but read all day. I did do my rhyme, though. Ha

  3. It was warmer up here, but only by a degree or two. I went to church for morning worship, and after lunch went through a couple of documentaries on my computer. Then I watched the Grey Cup (Canada's version of Superbowl), which our team won! A good day, all in all.

    Blessings and Bear hugs, Manzi!

I'm so glad you watch documentaries too. I spend some time doing that too. I especially like to turn them on .... on YT when I'm just poke'n around the house. Oh, then the Grey Cup is a really big deal because Superbowl is like a sacred holiday around here. (but not for me) Haha

I've hardly ever read fiction. That's why I'm so uninformed about currant things. I've always read history but I guess I'm pretty much uninformed there, too. Hahaha
      Thanks. Enjoy your week.

  5. What a wonderful selection of books you have there Manzi! Isn't it lovely to just be able to relax like that? The weather over here has been beautiful over these past few weeks, with gorgeous clear blue skies. I am making the most of it, and getting out for a walk most days. Then coming home in the afternoons and lighting the woodburner. Lovely!

Oh yes, take advantage of those last wonderful sunny days and take breath it all in. I still have to do a little walk with the dog, even on my lovely Sunday but when it's too cold I just drive to the park and throw the frizbee or ball until she's had enough. Herding dogs really get one out there as they need exercise more than most, I think.
Stay cozy warm with your wood burner.

  6. Great selections. I would love the Medicinal Plants of the Mountain West.

My Sunday? My 9 yr. old gr-daughter Bright Eyes had a tea party with 14 girls. It was a full on English tea. I did the scones and pastries, and a lot of other stuff. Feeling the effects today (not sitting down or going to the toilet for 8 hours). Great time with giggling girls.

I cracked that book open just a little but haven't had the time to really dive into it.
WOW.... 14 little girls for tea. Did the dress the part too, with hats and gloves? Teaching them to be real ladies, aren't you. That was being a good grandmother.... She will long remember that.

Oh yes, you said it. I like nothing better than to have a reading day too, but mine are too far between. It was a lovely day (indoors by the fire)

  9. I love being outside but like you, being forced inside can also be delightful, especially when your library is well stocked.

I'm with you. A good thing we are forced to be inside once in a while. We would never get any reading done.

  11. My Sunday? Pretty much the same except warmth, not cold and frost, I watered pot plants instead of feeding critters, but I did go back to bed and read books and my newspaper. That's what Sundays are for.

  12. Went to the library yesterday to get a new bunch of books to read. Oh, sure, I have several piles of unread books, but I'm not in the mood for them right now. :-)

I know, we get tired of just looking at the books sittng there so it feels like we've absorbed the already.

  13. We didn't have snow here in Hawaii, but it was quite peaceful too. Sundays are our days to spend all morning reading the thicker newspaper.

It's even difficult to find time to read the newspaper, let alone books. Glad you had a peaceful Sunday too.

I had a lazy Sunday of watching Doctor who! Couldn't do much else any way so it was fine by me :)

It certainly is but it's also magic to try to find the time and the quiet to read. My life was more peaceful when I lived in the country and I read more books. During the week, bells are always dinging when I moved back to town. That is why Sundays are such a great pick, most people are occupied.

  17. Oh, that's exactly what I need--a day to cozy up by a fire with a healthy stack of books. Alas, there are kids and holidays to prepare for. One day...

  22. Manzi, you are writing it so temptiously! I just feel the need to follow your example! :) When I had a day job in the office I had more time for reading, because I could read while in metro (it took me more than an hour!). Now I am mostly dreaming of reading... The bookworm in me is crying.. :) Ok, at least a page a day, right? ) Have a beautiful weekend! Hugs to you!

  23. On that particular Sunday, I awoke in Palm Springs to sunny blue skies and took a walk downtown and a dip in the pool!
Glad you were able to make good of such a frosty day. :)
