Springtime in the Rockies

It's here. Woopi Ding. Springtime has spring. I knew it, I just
knew it. I could smell it in the frozen air and hear it in the
crunch of the little icy crystals as my Snow Trax cleats bit into
the solid ice.

For the past 3 days, temps soared into the 50's and the sun
burned into the newly exposed skin of the runners and even the
strollers. People are coming out of their houses in droves.

Will we have more cold and snow? Perhaps, a little but February
is our month to shine. I'm already planting seeds in the green
house. Goji berries and more alpine strawberries. Who's
gonna be the health nut now????

I know I've been among the missing but the 2 cold months
of winter is the time for catch-up and making future plans.
Look out springtime, I'm a-com'n.

As soon as I say adios, I have to challenge one hungry
Puss to go into her travel bag. No breakfast for her as she's
off to the vet for teeth cleaning and hair matt removal. But
it's sleepy time work and I feel terrible to do it to her.

So with this little newsy tid-bit, I'll say adios and locate the
hungry Puss, who is probably under the bed because I
think she knows what is coming.

    1. I would like just one month of snow, not 2 or 3. I always hear you saying you love the snow and I really do too.I discvered that when I had to live in Florida for 25 years. I'll take snow to Florida, any day.

  2. Getting tons of snow tonight here, stupid spring doesn't want to show I fear. Poor puss knows what is to come, she may run away and then some. But bet she'll feel better after it is through if you can catch her at your zoo

I know you are tired of that eternally bothersome white stuff. We will get more snow in March but the long term forcast for Feb sounds great.
Poor Puss. She old, prob around 13 or 14 and I know how that feels. Ha Her teeth have been bothering her and I also know that one too. She is always so good at the vets but this time she has to go to sleep. She's there right now and I can pick her up at 3. I have to get her little corner in the world all fresh and tidy for her homecoming. I always wonder what kind of a life she had before I took her in and then what kind of beast would abandon her when she's old. I know how that feels too. lol

  3. Spring will certainly come for which I'm grateful. Are you doing the A to Z Challenge this year? The list is up and waiting for you.

    AND

Your mission, Manzanita, should you choose to accept it is to pick up an award on my blog. As always, should you be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions.

Thanks for the nudge as I've been on the non-blogging list for a while. Time I woke up and smelled the ....caught or killed.....?? Anything inbetween?

It most likely is. Whay did they stop making those old high beds where you had to look under every night before you went to bed to make sure someone was not hiding there. No way could a body hide under most beds these days.

  7. Winter is wily, just letting you know. When you think it is time to dig out the shorts and sandals, a sneaky blizzard can sweep in. When living in IL, and Iowa, we had several of those monsters.Meanwhile we are watching New York where our son lives.

:Yes you are correct. I recall when growing up in Minnesota, there was always the worst blizzard at the end of March ..... just when we were in the middle of the basketball tournaments. I think they have them a little later now. Ha

  8. Also a snow lover here, but tonight's may be more than what I usually like. I am with you on the winter thing, I do enjoy it for maybe 6 weeks, but then we could go straight to May and I would be very happy.

Not really. It's like a false spring. Usually high temps but the weather gods always taketh away and the only reprieve we may have depends on if Phil sees his shadow ..... which is coming up soon. Ha

Poor little Puss. She is old and her teeth were getting bad. They had to pull 2 teeth and shaved all her hair matts while she was under. But she is spunky and eating this morning. Thanks for asking.

  11. What lovely things you are surrounded with, i mean the Sun, the smell of Spring & you are planting Goji and strawberries! Wish they would gladden you with a generous harvest!
We have ordered some spalings of three sorts of strawberries to grow in (hanging) pots on our balcony-terrace. One is going to be a white strawberry with a taste of ananas! Let's see if i would be a lucky gardener! ;D
    Sending cheers to your Puss!
Hugs to you, dear Manzi! 😻

Right now there is a lovely rebirth of the earth for us but we will have more of winter after a while. This is just a teasing sample and we enjooy every second of the sunshine.
I hope the goji berrys survive and thrive. The seeds are so small and frail looking and my care is totally responsivle for their life. It's almost frightening and I hope I can do the job.
I saw the white strawberry in the seed catalogues. They must be a new variety.... at least for my eyes. lol I send you all my luck for your strawberries. Someone gave me some little shoots of the Alpine strawberry last year and they grew like crazy, but they are also so good that I would like a few more plants. Later, we can compare strawberry notes. Ha

We are at least 3 days journey (with my driving) from NY. Amazing.... but we usually experience this early spring in Feb but snow and cold returns in March. I'm so happy I have the little green house so I can start my seeds. People are out soaking up the sun's rays and getting a little vit. D. Probably getting ready for the next round. lol

  16. Gogi berries, all right! Helloooooooo, Manzi! It's good to read ya. Your description of everyone coming out of the woodworks for the fine weather fitted this past weekend here. Of course our temps were much higher than yours. We're such wimps. Anything below 60 and we're shuddering. :-)

I think altitude must have something to do with how warm it feels. I recall skiing wearing a halter and ski pants (of course in yonder days...lol ). Yesterday it felt like a balmy summer day and I worked out in the yard most of the day.
This, though, is not wise weather as the fruit trees think, "Oh goody, it's spring" and they get the buds ready. Then the cold returns in March and buds freeze and no fruit. I have plum, apricot, cherry and apple. Hope they don't get "nipped in the bud" this year. Ha.... I always wanted to say that.
A wimp you're not the way you ride Hilda all over the country.

I think it's all in the altitude, as I said above. FL's all at sea level and so damp. I can remember how I shivered sometimes when I lived in Florida. I prefer the dry mountain air but it also makes more wrinkles. Oh shoot, can't win anywhere. lol

  18. Animals DO sense the vet. I don't know how, but I believe it's true. My grandma's dogs used to get to the parking lot okay... but once there, they'd fight with all their might to get back in the car!! :)

We've got a sheet of ice in the driveway. I've salted and chipped...I'll go at it again in the morning.

That ice is so dangerous. I just talked to the gal who walks by my house on her way to work every morning and she said she fell a couple of weeks ago and hurt her arm badly..... and she is young. !!!!

That trip to the vet did a wonderful thing for the Puss. Her teeth must have been giving her grief because now she is more social and spends more time with us. They had to pull 2 teeth but she didn't seem to mind as they put her out like a light. Ha

This whole town was a ice skating rink too, until this warm spell hit. Now it will surely snow again and we have to go through all the ice and water again. Take it easy.

  23. Our groundhog here in Georgia (named General Lee, of course) didn't see HIS shadow! It's supposed to be in the mid-sixties and wall-to-wall sunshine this weekend. My kinda weather.

Ever since we moved here in '71, come January 1, I'm looking for signs of spring. The first year, we were actually swimming in an outdoor pool in February! Of course, a couple weeks later, we had an ice storm...

I reckon the weather is gonna do what it's gonna do. I hope it does exactly what YOU want it to do. In the meantime, enjoy your springtime planning.

Georgia is a state whose climate I could take. When I lived in Florida (for 25 years) I loved to go up into Georgia because one could feel the change of seasons without all the harshness. We've been in the throes of spring now, for more than 3 weeks and the forecast for the next 10 days is still high. I can take the 60 degree days. LOL
Trouble with this climate is lulling the fruit trees into fructifying too early and than we get zapped in April with another 2 feet of snow. We've even had a foot of snow here, in mid July. Still have the pictures. Mountains produce weird climates or maybe now, it's the chemtrails and DARPA.

  28. Wish spring would come to stay in Northern Virginia. Temps go up and down.Gorgeous spring day last Sunday, now it's back to frigid temps. As I get older, I'm finding more and more that I don't like the cold. But this is where I have medicaid for my disabled daughter, so we stay. But it's good because we're near my other three children and grandchildren. I'm trying to a positive attitude like yours. I do count our blessings every day. Nice to see you again. I'm back to blogging, visiting some select old blogger friends from the past. You're on my list. Hope life is good to you.

What a delightful surprise to hear from you again. I guess I haven't posted for a a month, either. Sometimes we just get bogged down with life, dont we.
This weather is a conundrum. We are usually the place that is frozen in time and space but not this year. I heard next week will go up into the high 60's. Help. I'm going to faint.

You have grandchildren and I recall your first book when your kids were mostly little. Time doeth fly.

They really got dumped on this year. Here in the West, we really need moisture and hope we get a lot of rain this spring. Never rains, but it pours or something like that. haha
