Traveling across the country in a restored 1908 Franklin, 3 elderly gents were
re-stocking their vintage car with snacks for the road. Everything about this
car looked brand-spank'n new, including the leather trunk that sat on the
luggage rack.
The Franklin auto was manufactured from 1902 until 1934. It competed with
the luxury big boys but like many of the more expensive cars, folded under the
rigors of the depression. I had never heard of that make of car, have you?
As the gentlemen closed the doors on this fine old car, one shouted back
to me,"Hope we don't hold you up on the highway."
Nope, it was my pleasure to wave as I passed them. LOL

were popular at the time. They would have been too
expensive for my relatives. They had to stick with Fords.

DeleteI wish I had taken a picture of all of the car, but by the time I got there, the old guys were loading the car and all the doors were open. I was impressed by the good looking leather trunk that sat on the luggage rack.
That car looks like a beauty. It's wonderful that the car is still in such a good condition. Don't worry, the depression monster grabs hold of me all the time. Wishing you the best.

DeleteEverything looked shiny and new. I think all these accessory parts for old cars are still manufactured for the hobbiest car guys. That is a good business all by itself. LOL
What you live through when you're young, it's hard to forget.
Every now and then, car enthusiasts host car rallies and shows. Cars are spiffed and shiny. A look in the past is what we all have when we attend these.

DeleteI enjoy looking at the vintage cars but I also get a kick out of watching how proud the owners of these become. It's like their baby and they attack every particle of dust with a soft cloth.
P.S. I would too if I owned one....haha

DeleteI lived there (Melbourne) 25 years and it never did feel like home. I always missed the obvious seasons because I know there are some changes with each season in Florida but I like wool. Ha.
I did miss my friends after I left.
I felt that way about Michigan. I lived there 10 years and it never did feel like home. Funny how we have our spot. :)

DeleteAt least the old cars don't crumble in an accident like the new cars do. I'd feel safer in an old one but they never had seat belts either. umm I wonder if they have to add seat belts to the restored vintage cars..... because it's now the law?????
... yes, Manzi, the law exists, but i hate seat belts )) i don't like when something restrict my movements, also i've heard of the cases when ppl should have better not to fasten... well, if there were no seat belts in old cars, i respect 'em even more! :))

DeleteYou just made me remember something odd and yet very funny. When my kids were little, we had a big old Chrysler...of course without seat belts but built like a Sherman tand. The kid who was the little toddler at the time would "stand" up in the front seat right next to me when I was driving and whenever I put on the brakes, I would stick my arm (elbow first) across the little kid so it wouldn't fall. All mother's used to do that. No one ever lost a kid..... that I ever heard. Hahaha
Now the law says parents HAVE to buy these expensive car seats. If they wouldn't make the cars paper thin, there would be no need for seat belts and kids car seats.
And we would have to be careful about wearing long scarves in a touring car or it would get caught on the wheel and strangle us, like what happened to Isadore Duncan. I used to know the make of car.... a Buggati or something like that.
I so glad you appreciate the vintage cars too. Real class.
