Today I am a copy cat. I heard Beate's
song and was immediately transported
back to 1949, when my husband and I
discovered our song,
Maybe It's Because
I'll wager most of Beate's readers were transported
back in remembrance of "their song." Great
job, Beate.
When Louis Armstrong came to town,
it was as a dance band, not as a single
performer. What a guy he was as he'd
even visit our table inbetween sets.
It was easy to fall in love to his music but I knew
I would marry Daryl the first moment I saw him.
His father was a patient at the hospital where I
was training and he came to visit his father. On
that first meeting, he asked me to go dancing.
I remember going back to the dorm, telling my
room-mates that I had just met the man I was
going to marry. They said I was crazy. Ha But
we were married 3 months later, after graduation.
The rest really is history.

Well, when you know, you know. I think the story of you and your husband meeting is really sweet. Louis Armstrong has an amazing voice. I can just imagine you and your husband dancing to the song.

DeleteMy husband wasn't much of a dancer but with that great song, all you had to do was move to the slow beat. Satchmo..... oh
yes, he could really hit "those" notes.
Loved your story--& the song!!
ReplyDeleteFishducky
DeleteI'm sure you and hubby danced to that
song many times, too.
A nice love story, thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeletePaula
DeleteYou are most sincerely welcome.
How awesome that you got to meet him. And hurrah for happy nostalgia.
ReplyDeleteRosie
DeleteOur kids appreciate his strong, healthy genes that
they got from him. It makes one remember.
Very nice story. I hope the whole marriage thing works out for you.
ReplyDeletejoeh
DeleteHe's dead. Everyone is dead except me.
All I have left are memories. sigh
I did not know that, sorry for a stupid comment.
DeleteGlad you have wonderful memories, I'm still trying to forget my first two marriages.
joeh
Deleteoh, no, no,no.... don't apologize. I had 2 husbands and
they are both dead. That's what happens when one gets
so damn old. LOL
Karen
ReplyDeleteThat ole Satchmo still shakes me up when I
hear his music.
Wow, you were definitely "love struck." Kind of envy those that it happens to. I was always a huge Satchmo fan.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Beate's blog also. She and Keith are so romantic. It is sweet seeing couples so in love.
Patti
DeleteI haven't thought about Satchmo and that period of my life in a long time but it surely returned like a bolt once i thought about "maybe it's because. That Satchmo could really hit those notes with that horn.
Yes it's so reassuring to watch new love.
A good song indeed. Wow, the feeling when you just know must be something as it zaps you.
ReplyDeletePat
DeleteYou've never been zapped? You will be and then you'll know.
No doubt.....you'll just know. It won't be flirty.... but very
peaceful.
I like your story, Manzi. It's perfect with this song. Love lightning struck me twice. I'm very fortunate. :-)
ReplyDeleteSusie
DeleteThanks. Twice is very fortunate. So many people never feel
the romantic side of life at all...... never.
What heart warming thoughts, greetings to you!
ReplyDeleteBlogorati
DeleteThoughts that warm the heart. How nice. And
greetings to you tool
It's funny how music transports you back to another time.

DeleteIt's absolutely spooky. As I began reminising, it felt
as if it all just happened yesterday.
You had just met the man you were going to marry... Isn't that wonderful :))
ReplyDeleteBlue guy
DeleteMoments of wonder. Does it only happen when one is young?
I don't know.
I hope not, Manzanita. I sure hope not. Why?
DeleteHi Manzanita - what a lovely story and you both were so obviously so so right for each other ... but Beate's blog post was lovely wasn't it .. so heart warming to read both your posts ...
ReplyDeleteCheers Hilary

DeleteIt's so good to hear from you again. I trust you are up to many
new adventures. I still write posts but they are very few and far in-between.
Love stories are always warming to the heart and Beate's love
story had many miles to transcend. I guess true love will always find it's way.
So that really does occur? Took work for me
ReplyDeleteHG
ReplyDeleteI think it occurs but does take work for endurance.
I miss that old music. And I miss you too my sweetie
ReplyDeleteTerry
DeleteHey there cutes, put on your danc'n boots.
We did well in our prisoner's suits.
We could only do better with the big bopper singing. LOL
Louis Armstrong was a frequent performer on the Ed Sullivan show. I was a kid and ignored it. Now I realize what a talent he was.
ReplyDeleteThree months? Love can truly hit hard and fast--it did for us.
Susan
DeleteAnd zing goes the strings of hearts. You have a wonderful
marriage. Blogging brings us next to so many good, fun,
sincere people and you and hubby are right there with
marriage sincerity for all to admire.
Oh my gosh, Manzanita, I love this! It touches me so much that I inspired you to share your song. And what a beautiful song it is. I love it :) Thank you for letting me know you picked up on the idea. I'm sorry I'm commenting so late, things have been so crazy busy here. Your story is an amazing story. It makes me happy to read it. We just know when it's right, right? :) I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I'm sending lots of hugs to you, Beate
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you so much for the big compliment :) It truly makes me happy I was able to touch you with my post!
DeleteBeate
DeleteYour life and marriage is so sweet for us to watch..... I mean those of us who knew Keith through our blogs. Your post just transported me waaaay back and because of dear memories, I was young again. It goes by so fast. Enjoy every minute of it.
So beautiful song, Manzi, and the story! I 've recently happened to watch a few old Hollywood movies, one was with the great Fred Astaire. That special atmosphere, the music, the dances, the actors, -- well, i'd love to watch more from the era (i suppose since the 20s up to the 50s)! :) Could you advice me any gems as a starter? ;)
ReplyDeleteHey Zara
DeleteFred Astaire..... what a guy! I have watched all of his movies, over and over. The plots were always terrible, the acting questionable and he couldn't sing BUT.... he oozed charm and certainly danced his way into my heart at an early age. LOL It is fun to watch him and Ginger together. I love that 20's era with the clothes, cars and the art decco furniture. Dear Zara, that seems to be "right up your alley, too." All of the musicals from that time were such extravaganzas. So many beautiful women in gorgeous costumes walking around on stage.
Two funny movies are Auntie Mayme and Funny Girl. Funny Girl is the story of Fanny Brice who was a singer, mostly but was in a lot of musicals, played by Barbara Striesland. I like that music. Auntie Mayme is not a musical but it always makes me laugh. They are not like Fred's films and I still like him the best.
oh really? i thought he sang himself! :)) Anyway, of course he's a great & charismatic personality! Thanks for advicing me the movies, i'll look for them! I watched only one musical with Barbara Streisand before and that was Hello, Dolly. I liked! :) I'll make my filmotheque list to watch long winter evenings! :)
DeleteA beautiful song and love your header!

DeleteThanks. My chickens are my pets. It's such fun to watch them because they are so tame. If I sit on a bench outside, I find 5 chickens trying to sit on my lap. LOL
