D is For Dancing With The Stars

D is for "Dancing With The Stars"

Dancing with the stars has just begun it's 16th season.  I admit it. I'm hooked!

Most of you are, no doubt, familiar with the show's format; a celebrity is paired with a professional dancer to dance a predetermined dance each week. Points for the couple are acquired by judges points and audience votes. The couple with the lowest combined total points is eliminated each week.
The 3 judges follow strict ballroom rules but the best celebrity dancer doesn't always win, as the final points boil down to popular audience appeal.

The judges, Carrie Ann Inabal, Ken Goodman and Bruno Toniali have earned their place as a vital part of the show.  I watch the show with pen and paper to judge each dancer and see if I can match the judges.

Thank you for stopping and the comment. It's nice to meet you. I'm surprised too, but that show is going as strong as ever.... perhaps even more so.

  2. I can't dance at all but I am hooked. The judges have to be both fast and funny with their comments, which sometimes are a bit hurtful. It must be interesting for you to watch with all your knowledge and understanding of how each dance should be performed. What I don't like is when a lousy dancer, like D.L. this year, and I can think of many others, are kept on the show by viewer fan votes and others, better dancers, are voted off.

    1. Inger,
You are right, it is more of a popularity contest. I get really upset when a good dancer has to leave early. I think Wynonna is OK as a singer, although I don't care for country much, but she was overdue to leave too. Her fans kept her alive up to last Tues.

It is silly, this I know
Dancing alone does not make the show
If learning to dance could be taught in a week
I'd go into my room and weep and weep and weep
The judges are funny and they entertain
Prob. get the high bucks not to be vain.

  5. My family goes through phases with reality shows. I haven't watched a full season of DwtS but some of my co-workers are hooked. I did see this week's results show and noticed that one of the pro gals is Lindsay who was a contestant on "So You Think You Can Dance?" last year. That was cool to see! For whatever reason, we did watch the whole season of that show.

At some point I think just about everyone gets hooked on something on TV. I do watch news but I don't know why. I hear, "So you Think You Can Dance" is a fun show too, although I've never seen it.

  6. In the UK it's called Strictly Come Dancing and I ADORE it. I went with a friend to see a live touring version of the show a few months ago. Len Goodman was great but I'm afraid that Bruno Tonioli was a bit silly. The professional dancers were there too with the Celebrities from the previous year's show and they were fabulous, except they were so far away. I'm spoilt with watching them on the TV!

How exciting to see it live. There always appears to be so much energy going on. It would be great to be there and feel that spark. Yeah, Bruno flaunts "it" a bit much. Not necessary. If you are sitting far away, is there a screen you can also see? I guess I love the TV too so I can watch the feet placement.

  17. I enjoy the Judging Critique as much, or possibly more, than I do the actual dancing. Frankly I love them all. Bruno is always so BIG. It is always so dramatic, whatever he has to say. He makes me laugh out loud again and again. Carrie Ann often tries to deliver the bitter with the sweet. She usually tries to offer up something helpful with her critique. Len always shoots straight from the hip. He never sugarcoats it. The audience always often Boos Len and applauds Bruno and Carrie Ann. The irony: Most of the time the three of them vote exactly the same. LOLOLOLOL.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Robin,
I always vote the same as they do too. Mostly the same as Len and he is often one point lower. He's a purist of the old school too. You really pin pointed all of them. I love your critique. As the old saying goes, you nailed it. I thought I had put out the video of when Carrie Ann got so excited she fell off her chair, but I guess I didn't. Did you see that one?

  23. I don't watch the show firstly because I know nothing about dancing and whether or not they're doing it right, but also because those I thought were dancing the best often got voted out (by the public votes) in favour of the couple which had the skimpiest female costume.
