A Co-ink-e-dink

An after-class picture
Geno is my handyman. He is moving to Boulder Montana, a small town about 27 miles away.  I've been fussing over that news because he did most of my heavy yard work.

Rachael has been my advanced Flamenco student (and friend) for over 10 years. She lives in Boulder Montana. She and I ran into Geno at a music festival last summer and we all sat together.

This morning I got an email from Rachael saying that Gino is her new next-door neighbor.  A co-ink-e dink or what?

Geno is taking a good share of the surplus furniture from the ranch, since he's moving from an apartment to a house.

Isn't it neat the way friends meet friends and then re-meet as friends?

  1. I reached a place several years ago when I stopped believing in coincidences. Call it destiny. Call it fate. Some things are simply meant to be. I am glad your furniture went to someone you knew and liked and is now living next to someone else you know and like. Kismet!

Sometimes you see all the pieces to a puzzle and you think, "Oh my, this will never fit." But then they all fall in place without any effort. Thanks for your positive words.

  3. What a co-ink-e-dink... Sorry to hear he is moving away from you though. 27 miles is not all that far, maybe he can come in once a week and help you with your rock garden.

Can't get the rain to stop here to get anything done outside....

    Love to you!

No it's not far at all ..... but he is no longer 5 min. away. I'd call him and say I coudn't get the mower started and in 5 min. he'd be there. I'll just have to get more organized and save up the work portion that he does.

You are really having the rain this season. Did you ever get your garden in? That rain will wash away all the seeds.
Much love and hope all is going well.

  4. That's brilliant and a fab coincidence too!! But I'd like to think your friendships were meant to be! Yay! Take care

It's fun the way some things turn out, even if I was an old "fusser" about him leaving.

  5. Reminds me of the whole six-degrees-of-seperation philosophy. I didn't realize you were so close to Boulder. I've always wanted to visit there!

I don't know the six-degrees-of-seperation philosophy. I'll have to look it up. You are probably thinking of Boulder, Co. I should have put Montana in the post, which I added now. I guess there are a lot of Boulder towns out west. Ha
I hope you get to visit the Boulder Co some day. It's a neat town. The Boulder Montana doesn't even have a signal light. But it does have several radon mines where people go for health reasons. The only ones in the US. There are some in Europe but they've made them into fancy health spas.

  6. What a cool coincidence, it's fun when things like that happen.

I like the pic. It's nice that you've had a student for 10 years (says a lot about your teaching), even better your student's turned into a friend. :)

  7. I truly believe people come into our lives when they are supposed to and that sometimes they return for reasons we can't always see at the moment. I won't be surprised if there is more to this story to come...

Yes, isn't it often unbelievable how things happen. Or one can be traveling abroad and run into someone from your one town or a good friend of someone you know. It's like 2 ants in a huge ant hill finding each other. Ha

At first I felt lost when he told me he had bought a house in the next town because I've come to depend on him. There is always God's Love.... a shelter for addicts, etc who are often looking for day labor. I guess I can call them again.

I know what you mean. Exactly. And perhaps it does sound a little stupid but there is truth to that cliche. I don't even know what I believe but often there is something I should know or someone I should meet and then a path seems to appear.

  10. Karen,
I guess there are many Boulders out west because it's so rocky in the mountains. It's Montana. I just added that to the post. Sorry, I should have put that in right away.

  11. Oh dear, a good handyman or mechanic you want to either marry or adopt which ever is appropriate just to keep them close. Sorry you are losing him.
Really strange how they ended up side by side. Fate??

Marry or adopt... a good one. My neighbor too, says she only wants a man who owns a tool belt and knows how to use it. Yes, Geno was the perfect handyman. Could do all kinds of small fixings and he was very reasonably priced too.

  16. Just think of the opportunities that have opened up for you--to find a new "Geno" and to beautify that old house. I envy you your rock finds. I need to do some rock walls in our yard, but we have to buy them here. :(

Natural rocks are such a grand find but the rocks you buy are flatter and easier to work with.
It will be hard to replace Geno. He was special. Not just a handyman but also a talented artist. He has an art show in Vancouver this month too. I know how busy he must be..... moving and getting ready for his art show. I was always grateful whenever he found the time to work for me. He loved working outside in gardens, etc. He put up a lot of fences around the gardens to keep the deer out. I had planted a lot of plants in the rock garden and left for 2 hours. when I returned, the deer had eaten all the tops off the plants so Geno put a fence around it the next day.

  17. I was reading on someone else's blog, yesterday, about how they had come across some old friends on, of all things, Facebook.

I don't know if things like that and your situation are coincidence or fate (and it really doesn't matter), but they're always great occurrences :)

I guess FB is the place where people are supposed to meet since everyone is on it. A few old friends have found me on FB too. Oh, a couple of kids (well, no more, really) my daughter went to school with looked me up too.
      Yeah, it's just fun.

    1. Dee,
I'm always amazed when these connections happen and I shouldn't be. Maybe I'm a control freak and feel that I have to always be the one in charge and make them happen. I don't know. There was a time in my life when I just said, "Thank you, universe" and thought no more of it. I'll have to return to that mindset again.

    2. Dear Manzanita, I think that if there is such a thing as an "original sin," it is the trying to control our lives. Meniere's Disease taught me that I have little control over much of anything except for how I respond to things. And I am trying more and more to respond with gratitude to the Universe. Peace.

    1. Oh Dee.
Sometimes I go back to past posts and sometimes not. Thanks for calling my attention to it.
I think I made my point when I aimed my foot at your butt. Haha.... All in good kidding, of course. Moving is also a pain same as a swift kick. When I moved to the ranch, there were definite good wholesome things about it that I looked forward to and I thought I would have room mates. Didn't work out that way and I was lonely and another thing, there is no real black soil up in the mountains. It's all rock and dry clay. Try even growing a tree in that stuff. There was no shade around the house. It was blazing hot in summer and the snow blew freely in the winter.

My old house in town has a huge yard with vital black dirt, alive with earthworms. That is what I really love.... plus shade trees where I put bird baths, feeders and hear song birds throughout the day. I love the neighbors. It's as if they stepped out of Mayberry. But the neighbors at the ranch were fearful and up tight as that murderer is still on the loose.

I still say to you, go where your heart is. Only listen to your heart, not other people. What do they know what is dear to you. What's another move? Look at it as a way of eliminating more stuff you don't need. Haha That is what I did.
Your gut will tell you where you belong. Mine did and right now I'm as happy as a pig in mud..... when I work in that beautiful black soil.

    2. Dear Manzanita, thank you so much for sharing the thoughts and the reasons that went into your recent move. So many of my friends feel that I'm too old to move again (77) and that I'll move back to Minnesota and be somewhat discontented as I have been since moving here to Missouri four years ago. But Minnesota feels like home to me and I want to go home.

You are being a beacon for me. Keeping my eye on the prize! Peace.

    3. Dee,
I don't know if you know that my home is really Minnesota, too. I grew up in the Mn/SD border towns of Ortonville (in Mn) and Milbank (in SD where my Grandparents lived. I feel at home there because it is my home. There is always something warm and comfortable about the people in the area where you grow up. This may be going a bit beyond, but I feel the place we grow up is woven into the air we breath and the local food that goes into our growth. We really become a solid part of our hometown and often don't feel comfortable any where else.

  24. It definitely is. Most of our friends live far away, so it's often a long time before we see each other. But, whether it's a few months or years, the moment we're together, it's like no time has passed at all.
