Late For The Garbage

The old Henny Youngman joke....

Am I too late for the garbage?
No. Hop in.

That is my pattern every Sunday morning. Neighbors share alley garbage cans and I have 2 on my property that are shared.

I save my garden weeds and prunings until early Sunday morning because nobody likes a garbage can hog. If there is any room, I chuck in as much as I can. In luck this morning. The can held contents of 2 wheelbarrows heaped high with weeds.

A lot of back-breaking, butt-shot work here.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I got a new Sangean radio; not that I needed one because  I have a radio in every room and various parts of the yard.  I was curious about this one and so far, I am well pleased. Rugged and quality tone. I have a radio going where ever I'm working. Unlike most people, I never listen to music except when I choreograph or dance but when I work, I am tuned to talk shows. One hears more of the truth and better news coverage on the radio.
Do any of my bloggie friends listen to the radio or am I the last holdout ??????
New Sangean Radio
Anyone remember Neil Young singing.... "The Losing End?"  Don't know why but it just flipped into my head. My daughter used to sing it and sing it until I was singing it.  (LOL)
  1. Hey Manzanita,
    Your post certainly was a pick-me-up! I sort out my rubbish or garbage and they never refuse to take away my refuse. English language, eh! :)
    Neil Young, eh. One of my favourite (favorite) musicians. Although "Lynyrd Skynyrd" might not agree with that.
    A good Sunday to you, dear lady.
    Gary :)
      You say rubbish I say tomatah. No that's another song. Even in Neil Young fav. There, that settles the favourite or favorite. What do Canadians say? Hope your Sunday was spectacular.
  2. I used to listen to the radio, but these days I only listen to music. Our radio programs are not always that interesting and the news here is just too depressing and someone is always being murdered or raped, so I just listen to the music. Music make me feel happy.
      Music is better if it's lively and up-beat. Yup often the radio talk shows can be depressing and scary
  3. Since I moved to the country, I seem to only listen to the silence, broken up by country sounds. But the radio looks very cool.
      Actually silence is good too. I love silence a lot. Thanks.... I love this radio. It's metal and sturdy for banging around outdoors when I work.
  5. I ought to listen to more radio!! I did listen to the BBC Proms last night live on Radio 1 - it sounded better and felt more magical than when I watched the show later on the telly!
    Take care
      I like that ..... feeling more magical. Great description. I think I know why I'd rather hear it on the radio than watch on TV..... I don't like to sit in one spot very long.... I do that enough on the computer. Haha
  6. My husband ONLY listens to talk or sports radio.
    I listen to both (music and talk) depending on my mood.
    You're considerate to wait until the last day to top of the garbage. :)
      My husband only listened to sports on TV or radio. He always carried a little radio in his pocket so e wouldn't miss his sport games.
      I think I am considerate too, but a lot of people are not. blah hahaha
  7. Sadly I only listen to the radio when the power is out and I need to hear about storm coverage. I use to enjoy NPR but I don't get it here.
    Love music but only listen to my songs of choice either on the computer, my MP3 or my Genius ball.
      but it is good to have a radio for emergencies like that. I'll show my stupidity again by saying I don't know what a Genius ball is.
      I do love music but mostly just my dance tunes
  8. No one does that with their yard trash here. Hahaha. It gets bagged and left by the road until the garbage people pick it up.
    I don't listen to much radio - period. Ron Paul has a channel coming out soon. I still haven't figured out yet if is a TV channel, radio channel, or an internet site. However, I am signed up to get newsletters when it finally "goes," so I guess I will find out then. If he is on the radio, I will tune in. Everyone else leaves me feeling "meh."
  9. We have a huge can that rolls just for yard waste. We have to pay our garbage company a little extra but so worth it.
    I haven't listened to a radio in YEARS. Not sure why. I guess the only time I listened to it was in the car and we have been listening to books on tape lately.
    Manzi!! I miss talking to you.... Gotta give you a call sometime just to check in.
      I liked the trash removal better in Bozeman where everyone had their own. I would like a second one like you have... just for yard stuff. Or we can take things to the dump ourselves but I'm scared to back up to the place where you throw it in a huge deep pit. I'm always afraid I'll back up and over the pit. Haha
      I forgot to say.... I still didn't get a new phone. I like this land phone but it doesn't have an answering machine. You can hardly buy them anymore. But way less radiation. I have a tester and the cell phones are wicked. I miss talking to you too. I'm up usually pretty early you know. If you go on Pat's and see my rhyme, you now I'm up. Love you
      You don't listen to talk shows but you are certainly well informed. Where must you get it? I can't or don't get anything on the news media on TV. Or maybe I just don't believe anything they say.
  12. I listen to the radio all the time. And, what drives my family crazy is that I listen to news and talk shows. I don't usually listen to music or any of the ludicrous "Morning Zoo" programs. I try to be as well informed as I can. Is that a factor of being a "mature" adult? In fact, I'll be helping my son move back to school in Virginia in a couple of weeks. He'll be driving his car and I'll be driving my truck with a lot of his stuff in it. I'm looking forward to seven hours of news/talk on the way down and seven hours of news/talk on the way back!
      Wanna hear a cliche? Boy, time flies. It seems like you just drove your son to school. A whole year already. I always try to find good talk shows when I travel by car too. Did you ever start listening to Coast to Coast AM? I was going sleepless so I finally joined their program and I can listen to it on the computer any time, now.
      Hope you find good talk shows on the drive.
      It's good to find a few people who still listen to the radio. I was afraid I was the only one left in the world to have a radio. Ha
      I do like this. It's metal and will take a beating outdoors. The tone is great and it said Australia when I was on a certain station last night.
  14. That's a very nice looking radio. I only have one radio and I didn't listen to it since 1990 because I couldn't pick up the AM stations on it and the FM stations were playing more and more stuff that I didn't like, plus they had the shock jock stuff on the early morning programs which I didn't like. when I moved here, I was surprised to find I could get the AM stations, so now i listen to music, but not often. I haven't yet tuned into a talkback show, I might one day.
      I like AM too. I never turn on FM. Is that odd that you were in the same city and in one part you couldn't get AM and you could in another part. Crazy. Huh? I love talk shows because I learn so much.
      The radio is attractive. I'm supposed to be able to get other countries. Last night it said Australia but nothing came up. I'll have to play with it more and see what I can get.
  15. We have a three bin system here. A small bin for each flat for regular rubbish, a large shared bin for recycling, one bin between four flats, and a large bin for garden rubbish, one between four flats. It works well as long as people remember to flatten their recycling stuff especially big boxes.
    ReplyDelete
    1. That sounds like a good and thorough system. I'd like that. Here, we mix everything together. To recycle glass, newspaper and cardboard, we have to drive to a place where they have bins. I always have a lot of garden rubbish too and I also have many compost boxes where I put the weeds and leaves. It's annoying when people don't flatten or cut up boxes.
  16. I will never forget, at one of my very first jobs, these two people arguing over the lyrics to "Southern Man" and Skynrd's rebuttal in "Sweet Home Alabama"...lol.
    I listen to talk radio all the time and have for a long time. I agree...you get a better idea of what's going then watching the evening "news".
    That's funny. Long time ago but when it comes to music, tunes just pop in one's head. Robin had put the video "Summer in the city" for me and comments kept coming in about the lyrics too.
    Hey, another one who listens to radio. Do you listen to Coast to Coast AM? I wasn't getting any sleep so I joined their program so I could listen on the computer. I just asked Al if he listens to it. I told him about it over a year ago. I've got little radios stashed all over the yard. In the greenhouse, garage and I put one out where ever I'm working.
  18. Oh man, if I had a dime for every time I had to run out at the last minute to get the garbage out...
    I listen to the radio in the car all the time, even on trips. I like to get a feel for the locals in that way and find all kinds of strange stuff.
    My neighbor treats me to his liberal talk radio way too often. I think he still thinks he lives on acreage. That would explain why he parks his car blocking half of my driveway almost all the time! Luckily, he likes country music and so do I, so I look forward to the days when he's listening to music!
  19. I usually listen to talk shows instead of music as well. I love listening to political talk shows in particular. Of course there's not a lot of political talk shows for liberals like me though, so I often have to hunt for them lol.
  20. That looks like a very nifty radio. I'm afraid I don't know that song.
    As for sharing garbage cans, it'd be hard for us since mom keeps filling it every week with her yard waste.
    ReplyDelete
  21. Dear Manzi, you've touched the subject that's bothering me for a long time, but, alas, there's nothing we can do. Garbage! As far as I know, there isn't any combustion or other type of recycling plant where I live now, and neither any garbage is sorted out. Imagine, the population counts 11,5 million already! It's scaring...
    I know many people want to be more rational about this, but still there's simply no possibility given.
    P.S. I listen mainly to my music, but also online broadcasting from my home countries to stay always tuned, even political talk shows :)
    Cute radio piece you have!
