There really is someone older than I am.

No pictures. This is from my old mac. That failure of the vid in my last post was
most likely the fault of this worn out computer which has served me well. I
have a brand new mac that hates me but not as much as I hate it. Why do they
have to make things more complicated when they seem to be working just fine?
```````````````
Do you know anyone with more years under their belt than I have?  I do.
Her name is Lo (from Lois) and she is 87. Yup, she has 2 years on me. I
love Lo because she is so free and honest. I thought I was but Lo reaches
out beyond. You can feel her attitude of, "I'm me and I don't give a sh__
what anyone thinks."
She'll say it just that way too. Boy can she swear. I heard cuss words I
never knew existed and if that is the way she feels, it's OK with me.  We
both have poor eyesight and she never proof reads. I'm getting there.
Lo's husband was a jazz musician and she occasionally plays some of
the most toe tapp'n jazz. I think some of it is his, some not.
Her writing is funny to the point of often putting me in hysterics.  Now
days, her health is not the best and she evidently spends more time in
bed and compains about it but in a very humorous way. Her posts have
bigger spaces inbetween and I don't know if her eyesight is good enough
for her to read many blogs. She used to read mine, I know and I do
appreciate that. I wish I had her gift for writing.
Her blog is "It's Always Something" in case you want to take a peek.
I just received a back order of a new watering can, a Peter Rabbit style
that does not leak water. I waited all summer for it and I can see why
everyone wants one. But get this....it has a big sticker on the can that
says it has a 10 year guarantee. WOW...it means I'm OK with it until
I'm 95. I suppose then, I'll have to get a new one. LOL
OMG...It's almost time for my exercise class on Skype and I have to do that on
Ms Priss New Computer. I have to get gussied up a little for that. LOL
  1. I admire women like Lo, you too btw, for the way they remain who they are regardless of age. It seems like the societal expectation is for old people to become child like while always being proper, in other words no cussing allowed once you hit 60.
      I was never much of a cusser or is it cussor? But I don't care what others do. I can feel Lo's independence and it's not just a feminist thing as she feels like a survivor. You are strong and a thinker. A good mind is always something of great value. Nice to hear from you. I left a comment on your blog but noticed you too, hadn't posted in a while.
  2. I'm 46 and I hope this doesn't sound wrong, but I love older folks. I help my wife run an adult arcade and we have the most interesting characters come in.
    One lady we knew was 96 and sharp as a tack. She still drove and was still very quick witted. I used to talk to her about things like old movies, what it was like before t.v., and growing up in a much simpler time.
    She passed on a couple of years ago, but I was privileged to have gotten to know her. We have a few others like her, they say what they want and figure it's their right to do so.
    I'd have to agree :)
      How fortunate this lady was to have everything in good working order when in her 90's. Driving at that age is a marvel. My eyesight is growing a little dim so I don't drive at night anymore and don't know how much longer it will be before my kids demand my car keys. LOL
      It is weird when I too, think back to my youth.... no TV .... not even a telephone. We did have a battery radio. But..... I grew up on my grand parents farm during the 30's and every night after dishes were put away, (esp in the winter) all the furniture in the parlor with the linoleum on the floor was shoved against the wall and Grandpa got out his violin, one aunt at the piano and another on the flute and everyone danced and sang. That included the hired men and maybe a couple hired women but hired is the wrong word. It was right in the heart of the depression so no one got wages but worked for food and shelter on the farm. But think how much more healthy for the soul all that music was and there was a lot of dancing and laughter.... no one even knew what TV was back then. That was where my love for dancing comes from. Yacko but time moves on quickly.
      Thanks for commenting, Mark
      Yeah, sometimes one has to play the game and even suck up. I'd really hate that. I've never really worked where I had to do that either. I am glad you are shucking your work place.
      You are a kid. For me,things began to go down hill a little when I turned 80. My baby brother turned 70 this past week and that was a blow to him. I sent you an email.
    I'm going to swing by Lo's blog. Thanks for that.
    Oh, and I've always had friends much older than me. Older people are soooooo much more interesting methinks :)
      Thanks. This is a very thoughtful comment. I liked all my ages but there is something very special about old age. I do feel like I can be more of myself and I notice the small things in life that I previously passed by. I hope your weekend is immensely enjoyable.
      I was going to say that I know Lo will appreciate your visit. It's very nice of you to find the interesting things about older people.
      I guess that is the plan because it seems there are no other choices. When one has good health, old age isn't sucky at all.
  7. Dear Manzanita:
    Now you make me wonder if you have been reading my mind. I was thinking about this matter of being oneself and how we are judged and ostracized for being who we are. I just had a shower and was pondering over this, so this post was timely to say the least.
    I have reached a stage in my life in which I shrug my shoulders every time somebody despises me for my choices. I think I am moving forward. I no longer care about their judgments and expectations. There is so much I want to do before I die. There is no time to dwell on these peoples' negativity.
    So kudos to your friend and what a lovely message to share, Manzanita. You are an inspiration.
    Thank you.
  8. Dear Julia
    Oops I got caught reading your mind. LOL No but we seem to be on the same page a lot of the time.
    You just said the important thing..."there is so much to do before you die." That is exactly how I've been feeling for some time now. But how fortunate that you recognize this at a young age. Think of how much more you'll get out of life and you won't be wasting precious moments on meaningless drivel. People often ask me what I do with "all" my time... (Ha what time?) Every day I make a list of all the things I want to get done. They are not necessarily big, earth-shaking projects, but I like to know that when I go to bed at night, i've pretty much accomplished what I set out to do.
    I know books are important in your life and in mine too. I read mostly history and I can never get my fill of that. When a certain country is on the news a lot, I want to know all of its history and just what makes it tick. When you mention Argentina, I want to know more about it. So no, there is never time to get everything in that we want to learn but it's interesting trying. Ha
    Keep on your path. You are doing wonderful literary works.
  10. Hey senior discounts, no longer having to work and being free to just be ourselves makes up for those aches and pains the come with our great wisdom. Or something like that.
    Lo sounds cool, I will check her out.
    I don't get "that" gussied up as it's just exercise. I may do a little make-up and a work-out outfit......not the sloppy pedal pushers and a torn T -shirt. . Haha..... The old iMovie was so easy but this one just doesn't make any sense.
    Sometime I honor my old age but sometimes I think it sucks, too. Gues that is like all life. LOL
    Yeah check her out..... she's one neat spunky dame.
  13. Hahahhahahah... you crack me up. You suppose you will have to get a new watering can when you are 95. Maybe it just might last until you are 99
  14. Well Terry.... you just never know with watering cans. They can spring a leak too , you know. By age 99, I think we'll all have sprung a leak. LOL
  15. Hi Manzanita - what a great post - highlighting someone who just does their thing and has embraced this techie age, even with a blog, when many don't or won't try, or can't be bothered to be interested ...
    We're lucky we live in the age we do .. there are things we can do to carry on learning, groups we can meet up with and try new things ... now the watering can - only ten years .. seems a little short to me ... so many of our old things lasted what seemed decades!! However said watering can could be turned into a planter ...
    Those hot plots don't sound quite right do they .. enjoy all you do .. and am glad you decided to take a little time out to smell those flowers and enjoy the summer weather ...
    Cheers from a slightly younger blogger! Hilary
      You said it......I do enjoy life so much now. All the drama is gone and we can concentrate on the important things in life. I am happy that I lived long enough to experience this electronic age. It is so grand to meet all the new people and become friends from all over the world. Then it is such fun to exchange cultural ieas and learn about other's lives without leaving home. LOL
  16. I don't know why, but this reminds me of an old George Burns line. When asked why he never dated women his own age, George replied that there weren't any left.
      G. Burnes was a stitch. In one movie he got up in the morning, sat on the edge of his bed, walked his 2 fingers across his leg and said, he did his exercises.
      I'm getting to that point. Just about all of my old friends are dead.
  17. I hope that when I hit my 80s I have reached a place where I feel free to just say what I think... and truly not care. That would be awesome. I am working on getting there now and making excellent strides.
      It seems the older one gets, there are more excuses made for blatant honesty. The old man who lived next door (he is now dead but was nearly 100) could say things that a younger man would get his face slapped or sued. When I weed, I often stand and bend over at the waist. He said, "I always like to see a good woman with her fanny in the air." With him, I just laughed and thought it was rather cute. ha
  20. Dear Manzanita, thanks for the link to Lo's blog. I went over and read and chuckled. She's a true cat lover and I so enjoyed the adventures of the cat she recently rescued. I signed on as a follower.
    New computers mostly flummox me. I'm truly technologically challenged. One of my nieces is coming over tonight to show me how to use a DVD connected to the TV and also how to use an older iPod that a friend gave me. I want to borrow audio books from the library and listen to them as I walk. Take care of yourself. You are dear to so many of us. Peace.
      I listen to the radio as I walk (in the winter) BUT..... most of my favorite talk shows have disappeared. May you enjoy your iPod.
    Actually I do understand the techie part (how bewildering!!!) It's the new filing system....... I can't find anything and Ms Priss has a mind of her own. She seems to hide raw footage and folders where ever she feels like it. I did have a guru here and HE WAS EVEN baffled. In truth, I'm sure it's me who messed things up to begin with.
  24. Why do THEY.... those idiots... have to make things more complicated when they seem to be working just fine? Good question. Very legitimate too. The operative word is MONEY. It's like when someone really bright feels it's time for a reboot, remake or re-imagining of some movie. It's the same with computers. I call it The Search for More Money.
    What's that... you heard cuss words you never knew existed? I'm paying attention now. I can always you some extra cuss words to address the next red tape fetishist.
    Peter Rabbit... Is that a fact.... ;)
