Rapscallions At The Park

Sunday at the park. Cody's plumb tuckered out after catching the Frisbee twenty times. This particular park doesn't allow dogs off leash, but every dog is. Therefore, owners are ever vigilant, keeping an eye out for the Pet Fuzz. I had just put Cody in the car and the little pet-mobile with the incarceration crates on the sides, drove into the park. Suddenly every dog was leashed and Cody looking out the back car window. Whewww, out-smarted the Fuzz again!!!

I wandered over to the climbing rock. These rocks are plentiful in the parks because rock climbing is a favorite sport with the young people. They practice on these big simulated chunks of cement for the real thing.

Bozeman is a college town and a lot of the kids take advantage of what the seasonal mountains have to offer. Big ski town in the winter, biking, rock climbing, running, and hiking in the summer. They use these climbing rocks to develop strength and endurance.

I've always said the Bozeman kids have a special athletic look about them. It's kind of a tanned, rugged look where energy reigns supreme.

They wear special shoes that grip the rock. They also carry a little bag from their waist of what? I should have asked. Some kind of powder to put on their fingers. I'd need to put "super-glue" in my little climbing pouch. Only way I'd feel safe, hanging there, super-glued to the rock!!!!

And then we have the fearless very young climber. Barefoot, no pouch and away he goes. This little tow-head was up and down that rock like a fly. They start em young in Montana.

Fuzz gone. Time to get back to Cody and give her a few more Frisbee tosses now that they won't be back for several hours. Off with the leashes. Are we being illegal? We all pick up poop after our dogs and I've never seen a dog there that wasn't voice control trained and they all have a license. Oh well, yes, it is illegal but the park's so huge and a cow dog just can't get enough exercise on a leash. Excuses, excuses.

  1. What a fun post! Love the photos of rock climbing and your descriptions are great! I have never tried rock climbing, not even the simulated ones at places like Gander Mountain. But, I have been down in a few canyons and gotten back out. I will settle for that. Ah, the fuzz, some "laws" are meant to be reinterpreted as commonsense dictates. Oh Happy day! T

  2. Pet Fuzz??? Would love to see who qualifies for such a job.
Love the barefoot boy. Way to go youngun, no need for equipment when you are born with it.

  3. Awwwww hello there beautiful Cody!!!

Wow these brave people climbing that rock thingie are amazing!! I think so cos I'm a wuss with things like that - it looks ever so dangerous for me! LOL!!

I think as long as the owners of the doggies are responsible adults being responsible for their dogs good luck to you all!!!

    Take care

  4. Well, I know rules are rules....but it sounds like everyone who goes there is DOG RESPONSIBLE. They wnt the privilege of the park and therefore are careful not to abuse it.....but watching their dogs and picking up poop.

I guess we wouldn't need all so many rules if PEOPLE took responsibility and accountability.

rock, don't think so. Not this ol' chick.

  5. Woof woof, Cody (er, nice to meet you, Cody). You surely are a handsome dude! I think it's nice your mom lets you run free as much as possible! I don't like being cooped up too much either.

That tow-head is headed for the Olympics. Wow! But I think I'll remain in the stands, watching.

  6. Teresa,
You must be like the little boy. You don't need special shoes or a pouch, (I asked my son and he said it's chalk). You''ve got your wits about you and the tools you were born with :) You can get out of any canyon.

Wouldn't it be great to scramble that mountain again, like that little boy ? In my gut, I think I still can but I'd better now try it!!!!

    Old Kitty,
You could do it. Just let Charlie lead the way and follow him. But then, there's always getting down. Cody says Hi and would play with Charlie.

And sometimes "rules suck." In place of paying salaries for the Pet Fuzz," just put out more plastic poop bag dispensers. I know people use them.

I'll join you in the stands. Cody says, "Howdy" to you too. He thinks you're pretty cute, yourself!

Thanks, everyone, for the comments. Manzanita

  7. Such a beautiful border collie! We have a tri-color border collie rescue dog. And a blue heeler. The heeler is the one who catches. The border collie watches and applauds. Lazy bum :)

  8. Those climbing rocks are amazing; I'd love to have a go. We don't have anything like that here although I believe that they have climbing walls in sports centres.

Cody looks as if she is enjoying her day.

  9. Sundays in the park. Sunday drives. Society needs to get back to doing that a lot more....Thanks for sharing your Sunday in the Park in Bozeman. I tried rock climbing once, with a halter. It was an amazing experience. Would I do it again? I don't know. There are so many other things I want to try....Dogs off the leash, huh. At least they weren't talking or texting on their phones.

  10. Carol,
You have the first Border Collie I've ever heard of who didn't catch frisbees. You have some neat dogs.

I look at those rocks and also think I'd like to have a try but am i crazy. I still think I'm 20.

You're amazing. Sky diving, rock climbing. What haven't you done, woman? You are one hot athlete.
No, Cody left her phone in the car. You crack me up. !!!!!!!

    Thanks for commenting. Manzanita

  11. I would have loved to see a pic of you by that rock. You represent every person you spoke about -- the picture of health. I envy you more than you'll ever know.

  12. What a fun day!! I've never been rock climbing, but would like to try it -- just once!

  13. Dear Kj,
Thanks for the kind words but I'm sure, with that athletic body of yours, you could easily climb. I asked my son what they have in the pouch and he said, "chalk." I remember how you met Mr. Paws..... you were pump'n iron.

Try it on a simulated rock with your girls. I bet they'd love it. i see so many little kids trying to climb when I go there with Cody. Thanks for stopping.
