The Energy Bars

Time flies like a kite in the brilliant sunlight. My life-long friend Marilyn, came and left and we did only a fraction of the things we had planned. Pictured is Marilyn's transportation from San Diego. She's very athletic for an old broad of 73. She brings her bike because she is training for another triathalon.

We did get a 4 -5 mile walk, every morning. She ran, I walked. We'd get up early, have our green drink and grab some yummy energy bars for our A.M. trek. We try to eat 80% raw and here is the recipe for the raw energy bars.

Raw Organic Energy Bars
(Entertaining video follows...Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk)

3/4 C. almonds, remove skins, soak at least 1 hr., drain.
1 C. dates, pitted, soak at least 1 hr., drain and save soak water.
1/4 C sunflower seeds, soak at least 1 hr, drain.
1/2 C Raisins, soak at least 1 hr., drain.
1/4 C. goji berries, soak at least 1 hr., drain.
2 Tb flax seeds with 1 tb. water, soak 1 hr.
1/4 C. raw cacao
powder or nibs.
1/4 C Tahini
1 tsp. chorella

3/4 tsp. cinnamon

Method
1. chop dates and almonds into small chunks in a food processor.

2. In a large bowl, add the date/almond mixture, drained sunflower seeds, drained goji berries, drained raisins, flax seed, cacao, tahini, chlorella, cinnamon and mix together. Add a little of date soak water if needed for moisture.

3. Divide mixture into 3 sections and flatten to 1/2 inch on a dehydrator tray lined with Telflex. Set at 110 deg and dehydrate 12-15 hours.

4. At half way point, remove plastic liner and flip the large patties. Cut into bar size and finish dehydrating until they are crisp on outside and soft chewy and moist on inside.

If you don't have a dehydrator, you can use the Essene method. Just set them in the sun all day. Flip at half way point. Just as delicious.

Marilyn and I made a pathetic video of us making the Energy Bars. Larry and Mo... we forgot Curly. We probably mixed him into the energy bars. Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk.

( We forgot to give credit to Terry of "My Journey With Candida" for the beautiful raw food aprons. Thank you Terry. We got nervous and forgot half of what we wanted to say. We love you, Terry)

  3. Real friends are forever. I eat raw food for dinner; it's from my sister's Licious Dishes store in Honolulu, where she specializes in raw food.

  4. Manzi--

You & I are very different. You sing--I can't carry a tune. You dance & take 5 mile walks--I play at my computer. You eat vegetarian raw foods--I'm going to have pot roast tonight. What we have in common is the ability to keep LIFELONG friends & to ENJOY life!

Delores : Trust me, the energy bars are better than the broads. LOL

Gigi : Your sister's store sounds like something I would like. Wish I could visit it. Yeah .... Go raw!!!

Fran : You call that singing??? It called "Making a fool of yourself." but what the heck. I know you have a lot of creative talent. Nice seeing you again.

Terry : The bars are truly good. A lot better than the video, I can guarantee that!!! Ha

  8. P.S. Terry : Block .... Great pun, I get it. Am I ready to go "on stage?" And there's one leaving in 10 minutes. Nyuk Nyuk.

Karen : I don't know how many calories, exactly, but you'll have so much energy that you'll work, dance, hike, or run it off. :)

  9. Those energy bars sound wonderful.

You are definitely two great ladies!

I love this: "Time flies like a kite in the brilliant sunlight." The older I get, the faster it flies.

I signed on again as a follower because in cleaning up my blog roll I lost some of my favorite blogs.

  10. I wandered over from Karen's place (Coming Down the Mountain), expecting to get a duck. I got energy bars instead. Just ducky!
But you had a grand time in the process; that's what counts. Along with sharing the "adventure." Thanks.

  14. Ann : Good to see you again. I've missed our communications.

Jules : Old Age is nothing to fear. It's a delightful reward for a job well-done. In fact, it's something to look forward to. :)

Rob-bear : Thanks for visiting my den. Whoever said vaudeville is dead.

Kitty : No matter how corny, we can have a running conversation for 51 years. Seems like it just started yesterday.

Mrs Bacon : Just 2 old broads, enjoying the wonder of the new technology.

Su-sieee : Good to see you again. Now that Marilyn I have to refocus and get down to blogging again. See you soon.

  15. Oh my, I'm exhausted just reading your posting. I reckon, if I could muster up the strength, I'd make me some energy bars. Then after consuming said energy bars, I'd take a nice stroll from the east coast to west coast, swim the Pacific, walk across Asia and Europe, have a gentle dip in the English Channel, walk up from Dover to my house. in the middle of England. I wonder whatI would do for the remaining 23 hours in the day...:) Oh yes, nice video, nice kitchen....

  16. You guys are amazing! If I weren't allergic to dates, I'd go for it! GREAT post!

  17. Thanks for the visit, for the recipe and the video. Plus, Marilyn's van is exactly what I want to travel in, and just may yet! I bet you gals had fun.

  18. I thought this was wonderful! I very briefly attempted to become a raw foodist right after I had my daughter.

So lovely to see and hear you 'live!'

  19. Those bars sound yummy!
    Blessings

  20. Aw, I loved the video! Fantastic - I think you two should make that a regular thing. Shame she doesn't live closer!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow, that treat sounds great. I sent it to my spouse. We'll have some soon.
    Thanks.

  22. Klahani : It sounds like you now need a nap. Thanks for stopping by and the comment.

Elizabeth : Thanks for the visit and comment. You can use figs or more raisins in place of dates.

Teresa : That would be perfect for you too. She absolutely loves her van. Has the bed (sofa made into one), kitchen with microwave, stove, sink ..... toilet and a TV. What more is there to life???? Plus, when you decorate, you just buy a new set of tires.

Suze : It works better to be raw foodist when you start when you're young. All the organs still work in perfect sync. :)

Bethe : Thanks the bars are not only yummy but full of great nutrition. Nice to see you.

Talli : Thanks. It's good to listen to your speech and catch all the redundant words and phrases.

Life 101 : Hope she makes them.... As good or better than the bars you buy.

  23. How lovely to see you for real after chatting by words for so long. Your friend must be amazingly fit to be doing a triathlon. My stomach's not too good with raw food. I've always been a delicate flower I'm afraid but those bars do sound delicious.

  24. It's wonderful to hear and see you Manzanita. And those energy bars look so yummy! It really gets to me that I can no longer eat things like nuts.

By the way I think you and Marilyn moved around each other pretty easily, a kind of dance around the center of the kitchen.

  25. You youngins are impressive. Most of that raw/organic stuff sounds yucky to me but this recipe looks good. Thanks.
    Be well.

  26. You two should have your own show ... or at least make some more of these videos. It made me feel good just to watch the two of you together. (Your friendship is showing.)

  27. Those sound delicious. I printed out the recipe! Y'all are great together. I'm a bit jealous.

  28. You girls are amazing. I cannot watch because don't have the apparatus set up, gotta get help with it. Those high calorie bars sound great from the recipe. 80% raw - that takes devotion.
    5 mile walks, wow.

  29. Your video is just brilliant. :-)

I'd love to see more of these, and you've definitely inspired me to experiment with energy bars. :-)

  30. Rosalind : A lot of people can't handle raw. I can't with a lot of things but I always sprout the grains.

Bish : Thanks Bish for the kind comment. You mention we dance around the kitchen.... Marilyn plays Flamenco guitar..... and I dance. :)

Robyn : Thanks for stopping. We both agree cacao or chocolate is good for you. :)

Susan : Thank you for the kind words. I don't know is the world is ready for 2 old broads. Ha.

Anthony : Thank you for the sweet comment. You are a cook. I'm not much of a cook so I've always found raw is easier. But I admit there are a lot of raw recipes that take long preparation. I always like your pasta recipes because it still has some raw in it.

K.C. Woolf : Thanks for the kind words. We should have used that as a practice video but we live so far apart and have so many plans for the short times we are together.

Friko : Thanks for the nice words but you, my dear lead the pack in gumption. I think that word means "get up and go." :)
