The Spotting

If you love me, show me
It was late afternoon on Valentines Day as workers were leaving their jobs. Traffic was getting heavier and the temp was beginning to drop for the evening.

Cody and I were finishing our walk at the Fair Grounds when we walked by a car with the engine running. Inside was a youngish gal who I suppose guys would describe as "hot."

Just then a pickup approached from the opposite and slowed down as it passed the running car, placing Cody and me in between them.  I felt some kind of weird communication between the truck and the car as the parked car began following the pick-up. They stopped at a small parking lot. The guy got out and jumped into the "hot" gal's car. Ding ding..... cheating, cheating, cheating. They were obviously married to other people or why meet in a deserted fair grounds on a cold winter day. Oh, right, it is Valentines Day and they have to meet and profess their lust on this romantic day. I'm sure there could be a thousand innocent excuses for their meeting but my gut tells me otherwise.

The hottie's husband probably left work early to buy his wife the traditional roses and candy and will present her with an expensive piece of jewelry when they have dinner at the fancy restaurant he chose. Pick-up guy's wife is at home in the kitchen, wearing an apron and cooking that perfect dinner for the man in her life. She had spent part of the day shopping for the diaphanous negligee for her and a sexy neck-tie with matching thong for him, in anticipation of their evening.

I hate cheating. I started up my car and drove from the park without a glance in their direction.

  1. Hmmmmm, you're right there could be a million different explanations for this. Interesting though.

    1. Keith, I thought of a good one, she left her husband's Valentine present at the library and pick-up guy had to hunt her down to return it to her as she was meditating in the quiet park. I just came from Pat's and I still want to rhyme. Do you do that? Hope you have a fun weekend and Holiday.

  4. Rarely is your gut wrong. If you have ever been on the receiving end of cheating, you know what to look for, so you know it when you see it. If it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck... chances are it's a duck.

Quack, quack. Well then I have at least a Masters in spotting cheating. What to look for? I could write a book on "clues" alone. All a vital part of my growing experience. Ha ha

    2. Golly, if you're boinking a duck, you've got bigger problems than cheating. That's just fowl.

  5. It's possible that they could've been married to each other and were trying to put some heat back in their marriage. Or, they were two single persons early in their relationship acting out a fantasy. And, yes, it could be two people cheating on their spouses. I hope it was not that one though.

  6. Hey Suse, You got some good ideas, there, girl and that is a possibility. I think I'd pick a warmer spot to act out my fantasy. But I know what you mean. I suggested just that when things went awry with my first husband. I'd go to the bar of the big hotel across from his office. I'd sit at the bar, he'd come in and buy me a drink. After a while, he'd ask if I wanted a room and I'd say, Of course. He'd leave to get it and I would get some strange looks from customers. Oh, I dressed the part, too... like a floozy hooker. He'd come back saying in a loud voice he got a room with a view. Ha. We'd finish our drinks and leave. It was way before "Pretty Woman" too. They copied us. :)
I had a trusted sitter for the night but I always checked on the kids as it was before cell phones

  7. Yeah cheating is something I hate too
Especially when the other fully trusts you
Then you just go behind their back
    Causing them unneeded flack
    Don't want to be there
Get a divorce at your lair
    But maybe their heaters broke
And they were keeping each other warm with the odd stroke
    Until their partners came home
    To each respective dome haha
    And here you go
Since you still want to rhyme after visiting my show

    1. By the way, I must relay
      Your sticky comment made today
Had me rolling on the floor
      With it's humor evermore
The path I walk but not in dark
Is called by me the pervert park
Instead of business in strange bars
I think they do it in their cars
Henry Ford would soon drop dead
If he heard what I just said
      But worry NOT I must
The man already bit the dust
You say the cheaters heaters broke
In both cars and that's no joke
What will my walk tomorrow bring
Maybe Batman and Robin out for a fling.

And I know you would, too. I guess I just wanted to get out of there. Get this picture...... the parked car with motor running beside the road....... I had just reached her car and was walking by it..... the truck drove in very slowly and I was sandwiched in between them. I could just feel they wanted to talk to each other but I was right there so they didn't. If they had been just 2 acquaintances they would have talked to each other even if I was by their cars. Oh well, another day, another walk.

    1. Terry,
Many times the first marriage is the mistaken impulse of an undisciplined heart. Or maybe you just want to get out of Dodge. Either way, you got a good one now. You never did remind me when your B/D is. I know it's soon.
      Love to you

  11. Haha, there's a fine line between 'hot' and 'easy'; but I blame Valentine's Day itself. The commercial pressure for this to be the BIG romance day of the year whether you feel like it or not is just too contrived.

And I'm sure it's not a coincidence that 'Valentine's Day' is 'VD' for short ...

  15. Perhaps they are married to each other and this is their way of spicing up Valentine's Day or the marriage. Lots of couples recreate the day and the way they first met.
I agree cheating is wrong. If a person in a marriage truly loves a third person, they need to 'fess up and get out of the marriage.

    1. River,
Cheating is so terrible because the cheatee is always the last to know, of course. I was dumped after 25 years of marriage by the cheater. But, the irony of it all, he died on Valentines Day. When I told my best friend of 50 plus years, who knew him very well, thought the universe had a great humor to claim a narcissist on Valentines Day.

  16. I like Chuck and River's comments. It is nice to think positive, but somehow I think you are right with this one Manzanita!! Cheating is so terrible, I think we would all agree on that. As you say (and it might NOT be true in this case) these people then go home to their husbands/wives and act totally normally. Frightening really! Hope you're having a lovely weekend over there.

  18. I'm not sure if I have commented on your blog or not, maybe during last year's A/Z challenge, but I've been checking out blogs signed up for this year's challenge :)

Yep, it certainly does seem like there was some type of activity going on that I wouldn't like either; sure seems like a bit of cheating. Similar thing hubby observed the other day while walking the dog down by the ocean. He saw a car with two people in their 30's "going at each other" is how he described it. Middle of the day on a work day. I said to him "they must be having an affair". Sad if either case was the truth.

I am not a fan of cheating, yet it is totally accepted and actually expected for a man to have a wife and a mistress in other countries/cultures. I suppose it depends on what moral values you were raised with. I would have been jealous. (Scorpio rising)

  20. I trust your judgement, as you know what you are talking about and to be honest, these days cheating is a much more realistic option. If it was something civil, they would have driven together or at least not have chosen such a suspicious place. I hate cheating too and feel bad for their spouses. I also feel bad that you had to be submitted to that.

I don't approve of cheating but if 2 people chose to hurt others, I guess they will have to deal with the karma they are creating, at another time.
The scene presented a kind of mystery and it has been interesting to see what others have for an opinion. Thanks for commenting

  21. Dear Manzanita,

Hand on heart...ah yes, the left side, Gary...hand on heart, I have never cheated and proved my love beyond all obstacles with my then wife.

I might say that I realised that moral values were truly lost the day I found out my wife was cheating on her boyfriend.

    In peace, dear friend.

    Gary

  22. Hey dear Gary,
Oh no, not you too and all of us who still have moral values. But we can't help it and can't shuck our morality if we were brought up a certain way. Never trust a cheater, they will cheat on you.
Hope you are OK. Cody says Woof to the celeb Penny.

  23. I'm one of those optimists. I like to think they were two people recreating where he proposed or where they first met or had their first kiss. Cheating is such a bummer....

  26. Okay, Pollyanna here wants to believe they were a married couple spicing up their marriage... or a brother and sister, or simply good friends. Meeting halfway between their homes purely for convenience's sake, ya know, and about to help each other pick out the perfect gifts for their respective spouses. That's what I want to believe. But you were there. You saw them. And I trust your instincts. Too bad. Cheating is the lowest of low behavior.

I LOVE that picture. A copy of it used to hang in one of our local restaurants, but when the restaurant changed hands, the picture disappeared. If I found it in a thrift shop, I'd have to buy it. The little girl on the right looks a lot like me. (Um, a few years back.)

    1. Susan,
Really? that picture is a copy? The one I snapped the shot from was on something like cardboard just like an old picture of my husband so I thought it was an original old photo. It was large but not in a frame. That was when I was still in Bozeman and trying to get rid of the stuff in that house so I didn't dare buy one more item. I wish I had known, I'd would have picked it up for you. If it ever turns up here, I will.

I really avoid any kind of cheaters but this has produced some interesting comments. I think almost all of them shared your thoughts.Proves there are a lot of good bloggers that we know.
