My theme for
the A -Z Challenge
is Aging into
Longevity.
I readily admit that
working on longevity
is a constant job.
Most of the time the
elderly are cooking,
baking or fermenting.
(At least they
better be if they are
interested in retaining
their spunky ways. )
Kombucha is one such homemade drink that adds some
healthy years of longivity.
For the full benefit of Kombucha, it should be made at
home because the commercial kombucha is not entirelly
ripe and the sugar hasn't been fully eaten up by the bacteria.
When it is made at home and is truly ripe, it regulates
the level of acidity and supports health for a longer life.
Yay! Let's have a kombucha party.
I love Kombucha, especially how versatile it is; I flavor it with just about anything, but my favorite is orange peels and cocoa nibs.
ReplyDeleteMelanie
DeleteOrange peels and cocoa nibs sound most perfect combo. And good for you, making your own.
Acidity is a good thing to have regulated, mine was super high before, still not normal yet.
ReplyDeletePat
DeleteI wonder if acidity makes a real dfference by the by-products of the yucky, evil stuff that goes through our blood stream as we are trying to get rid of die-off.
I will definitely check that out for I am not sure where my spunky has gone to.
ReplyDeletePatti
DeleteIt's kinda like a song, "Where, oh where has my real spunky gone.....Oh where, Oh where can it be?" LO
This is something I've heard of, but have no idea what it actually IS.
ReplyDeleteRobin.
DeleteWikipedia gives this a lousy recommendation. This drink caught on during the hippy days ( I think because if one tweeked with it, it can make one high. Those old hippies, always looking for ways to get high. haha I like it because it is another simple probiotic.
There seems to be a trend here...read your post, head to Google.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll stay clear of this stuff for now, but if it works for you that is great.
joeh
DeleteYea, it probaby isn't for everyone. Take care and
spread cheer.
Fermenting?
ReplyDeleteHuh, so that's why Grandpa smelled funny.
Al
ReplyDeletehahaha Grandpa knew how to fight the depression. Remember the Waltons. The 2 sisters (can't remember the names) whose prominent rich father had kept a still and passed the "recipe" on to his daughters when he died. They always called it just the recipe and thought it was a beverage, only. They even sent a bottle of it to FDR. LOL
Another fruit to put on the list!
ReplyDeleteSusan
DeleteIt's another drink that brings peace to an over-used gut.
I have yet to taste kombacha. First, I have to get over the name. It makes me think of tentacles about to strangle me.
ReplyDeleteSusie
DeleteThat's a biggie and who needs tentacles around one's neck
Hi Manzanita .. I've never tried Kombucha .. and I see it's a tea .. interesting .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary
DeleteIt has an exciting taste all it's own,. the home brew is especially favorfull
lovely,
ReplyDeleteespecially love the title of your blog.
Stephan
DeleteThanks. I've always thought of it as being a bit "ducky" myself.
I've tried it a few years back. Didn't taste too bad
ReplyDeleteHoly Ghost
DeleteCommercially, it comes in many flavors. My favorites are the original and gingerade. Someone said how much they like the mango flavor but yuck.... the one not for me. Ha
This is another one that I haven't heard of anywhere except here.
ReplyDeleteRiver
DeleteThe health food stores here, can't keep it in stock. Gingerade, my favorite, is always out of stock. When I buy commercial, I go to the store on the day of the deliveries.
What does it taste like, Manzanita?
ReplyDeleteHey Blue
DeleteWe are always on a health quest.
It's a little tart because it's fermented, a small hint of the black (or you can use green) tea, a zing of the bubbly, the sweet aftermath of the sugar that has been eaten up and a tinge
of a promise of alcohol. And if you have added ginger, a warmth of remembrance.
Really lovely.
This sounds like something to check into anyway...
ReplyDeleteI was going to ask what it tasted like, but I see Blue beat me to it. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, we've had a Kombucha for a couple of years (as well as a white Indian Mushroom, like yogurt or kefir).
ReplyDeleteI liked its taste too. Then something went wrong and the mould started gathering on our Kombucha slices. I'd love to have it again!
