P is For Probiotics

The theme for the
A-Z Challenge is
Aging into Longevity

Probiotics are
"friendly microor-
ganisms."  These are
the good guys and
especially as one ages
these should be kept
in the great majority.

Here's something to think about; we cannot live with
out probiotics. They help us digest food in both the
small and large intestines.

They play a huge role in our immunity as they
directly drive out the bad guys and secrete substances
used by the immune system.  Now, get the connection:
keep working, working, working on a powerful
immune system and you'll have no colds or flu.

I've really been hard hitting already on probiotics....
with the kombucha and the fermented foods. I know
mostly this is boring crap but I'll tell you what is
more boring.......growing old and not feeling well
and being a burden to your loved ones.

I wish I could communicate to you, the pure joy
of old age.  It's such a special time and it's usually
very short. Make it the best dang part of your
whole life.

  1. Yoghurt is a great source of probiotics too, especially natural greek yoghurt without the sugars and flavourings. I eat a lot of yoghurt in the summer, less in winter, but my immune system is boosted with daily malt extract and cod liver oil. (Great options if, like me, you don't fancy fermented products).

A good pick-me- up too. I hear that is one of the best.

You're right on to all the good stuff for health. My neighbors have goats and I help milk once in a while in exchange for the prize-winning raw milk. It has become almost impossible to find and it makes the best yoghurt or yogurt. (Take your pick). One really has to scrounge these days to remain healthy. I'd do anything for a little fresh raw milk...... clean out the goat pens too. Isn't it odd that the things we used to take for granted have now become more precious than money.

  4. I take probiotics daily. I've actually had two doctors recommend to me that I take them.

Oh good, I mean good that the doctors recomment you take probiotics. A point for allopahic medicine.

  5. It is my goal to keep banging around this world as long as I can. While I don't want the "Physical Al" to deteriorate, as long as I have "Mental Al" I'll be fine.
    Wait, that doesn't sound right.

If not, that's how far gone I am. It makes perfect sense to me.
I'm glad you are still banging around and making us laugh.

  6. Hey Manzanita,

I need more probiotics in my life. A bit more friendly bacteria, as such.

You see, I have been exhausted and the medical folks have not pinpointed what's wrong with me via blood tests. Still, I'm getting better. So much so that I only just realised that you are doing that dreaded alphabet challenge! :)

    Take care, my lovely friend.

    Gary :)

Surprise. I've been thinking about you lately and I dropped in to see if you are back to your smiling posts.

Too bad you needed a blood test to figure out the post angle. hahaha But the exhaustion is always serious and I've been there a few times, too. Ya gotta "buck up' because a lot of your fans await for thee.

Sorry I let you down and am doing the dreaded A-Z again. It's addictive. I can't help myself. Ha

I just proved I am not a writer as I had to go back and read this post to see what I had written. It probably did not come out clear (of course not) but I meant all things that act as a probiotic. One can swallow the pills but I mostly take and had meant the fermented foods and drinks that are the natural probiotics. You, my dear young friend, most likely have a steady flow of the good bacteria simply becaue of your sparkling yiouth.

Yes, so good as we get older and we can punch Mr. Gas in his fat gut as he follows us. Ha

  9. My body reacts best to a diet of homemade foods and probiotics didn't make much difference. Each of us finds our own way in our later years.

Oh yes, food is our true medicine and if we follow a good and natural diet, we are getting all the probiotics we need.

  10. I give the pills to Callie which is supposed to help with her UTIs and rely on yogurt in smoothies for me. You are so right, old age is high maintenance but the results are worth it. Wish I were as dedicated and in as great shape as you. You set the bar high.

You are still the "spring chicken" but.........always worthy of consideration. Most of my relatives just got old and died. No lingering in a nursing home or hospital. That's the way,

    2. I'm not springing. I'm going to be 45 in June. ;)

  19. Manzi, my dear, hello!! I'm sorry to have missed many posts of yours by the moment, but i will read each one!
First, i wanted to ask where to get probiotics, and then i see it's in yogurt! We eat yogurt almost daily as we have an electrical yogurt-maker, so i feel relieved and glad we are already well filled with probiotics! ))
Hugs to you and have a beautiful new week!
