K is For Kombucha

My theme for
the A -Z Challenge
is Aging into
Longevity.

I readily admit that
working on longevity
is a constant job.
Most of the time the
elderly are cooking,
baking or fermenting.
(At least they
better be if they are
interested in retaining
their spunky ways. )

Kombucha is one such homemade drink that adds some
healthy years of longivity.

For the full benefit of Kombucha, it should be made at
home because the commercial kombucha is not entirelly
ripe and the sugar hasn't been fully eaten up by the bacteria.
When it is made at home and is truly ripe, it regulates
the level of acidity and supports health for a longer life.

Yay! Let's have a kombucha party.

  1. I love Kombucha, especially how versatile it is; I flavor it with just about anything, but my favorite is orange peels and cocoa nibs.

Orange peels and cocoa nibs sound most perfect combo. And good for you, making your own.

  2. Acidity is a good thing to have regulated, mine was super high before, still not normal yet.

I wonder if acidity makes a real dfference by the by-products of the yucky, evil stuff that goes through our blood stream as we are trying to get rid of die-off.

Wikipedia gives this a lousy recommendation. This drink caught on during the hippy days ( I think because if one tweeked with it, it can make one high. Those old hippies, always looking for ways to get high. haha I like it because it is another simple probiotic.

  5. There seems to be a trend here...read your post, head to Google.

I think I'll stay clear of this stuff for now, but if it works for you that is great.

hahaha Grandpa knew how to fight the depression. Remember the Waltons. The 2 sisters (can't remember the names) whose prominent rich father had kept a still and passed the "recipe" on to his daughters when he died. They always called it just the recipe and thought it was a beverage, only. They even sent a bottle of it to FDR. LOL

It's another drink that brings peace to an over-used gut.

  9. I have yet to taste kombacha. First, I have to get over the name. It makes me think of tentacles about to strangle me.

Commercially, it comes in many flavors. My favorites are the original and gingerade. Someone said how much they like the mango flavor but yuck.... the one not for me. Ha

The health food stores here, can't keep it in stock. Gingerade, my favorite, is always out of stock. When I buy commercial, I go to the store on the day of the deliveries.

    1. Hey Blue
We are always on a health quest.
It's a little tart because it's fermented, a small hint of the black (or you can use green) tea, a zing of the bubbly, the sweet aftermath of the sugar that has been eaten up and a tinge
of a promise of alcohol. And if you have added ginger, a warmth of remembrance.
      Really lovely.

  17. Oh, we've had a Kombucha for a couple of years (as well as a white Indian Mushroom, like yogurt or kefir).
I liked its taste too. Then something went wrong and the mould started gathering on our Kombucha slices. I'd love to have it again!
