T is For Tangos

Daily post during April from the A-Z Blogging Challenge. Today is T. My theme is Flamenco.

T is For Tangos

Tangos, one of the oldest basic songs, is of unknown origin. Some of the music is frivolous but the words of the songs are melancoly so speculation is, the Tangos may have had a serious past. Mostly it is danced with flirtatous hips and lighter movements.

A Flamenco Tangos is not to be confused with the Argentine Tango or the English Ballroom Tango. The dances may share a common root but each is a distinctive dance that has it's own characteristics. Tangos is a sensuous dance and easy on the eyes.

Below is an example of Flamenco Tangos

  1. I take it you love to dance. I did too when I was younger I would not leave the dance floor and my men friends had to keep trading off I wore them out! I guess that is why I had to have both knees replaced last year and now have RA & Fibromyaglia. So, now I am blogging. I would love a follow back thru GFC when you find the time. Have a great weekend and Happy Easter!

  2. Oh, Manzanita, I like this tango. I really see a lot in common with ancient hula movements with the flamenco tango...I can't believe the alphabet is almost over. A joyful Easter to you, amiga.

  3. It is indeed easy on the eye.
I can hear sunshine in that music, love it!

  4. Her hands dance as much as the rest of her.

  5. That really is a sensual dance and the hand movements are so graceful. The wrap is very flattering and feminine but I missed seeing a lot of the steps because of it. Liked it when she pulled it up and showed the intricacies of the steps.

  6. Oh she is gorgeous!!! I can so see the fun flirty side of this type of flamenco!!! But it's also very disciplined! Wonderful!! Thanks for the info and the clip! Take care

  7. mmbear : Thank you for visiting. I'm sorry about your knees. They are very important for dancing. I will visit you also.

Siv : Thanks for the comment. It is appreciated.

Su-sieee: Yes, a lot of hip movement. How's your flamenco coming :) Hope you all have a nice weekend and a Happy Easter.

mimi: Thanks for the comment. What a great way to think of sunshine. Especially when it's snowing.Ha

mybabyjohn: Flamenco hands are always so expressive.

Patti: I like to see footwork too. I hate it in these videos when a dancer is doing footwork and the video person turns the camera on their face. I want to see feet!!!!

Kitty: You described it exactly... fun but disciplined. You and Charlie enjoy the weekend.
    Love and peace

  9. That shot of the hands at the start of your post is amazing! So much movement and vitality!! When I saw 'tangos' in the header, I thought I was actually going to know something about the topic - thinking it was about the more widely known tango. But ... as usual, you've taught me something new!!

    Have a great weekend!!

  10. Beautiful, fun music to go with her sensual dance. Like the others, I would have liked to see more of her footwork.

  11. Very different than the other videos you've shown. Much gentler--and did I actually see a slight smile on her face? Have a happy Easter!

  12. Man, love those hands in the picture!

  13. This is a very graceful and elegant dance! I also enjoyed the intricate hand movements that tell a story on their own. Thanks for visiting me, and I look forward to seeing more of you. Julie

  14. Oh my... What beautiful graceful movements. Maybe in my next life I will be a dancer...

  15. Oh.... I forgot... I want to wish you a Happy Easter Manzanita

    ReplyDelete
  16. That was very cool! Yes, not as abrupt as the other dances.

Hope you have a great Easter my dear friend!
    (((HUGS)))!

  17. I love watching people dance! I just wished that I wasn't so self conscious to get out there and do it myself!

Thanks for following my blog! Following you back now!

  18. texwisgirl: I've liked her tango. This is from YouTube but I have a DVD of her through another source.

Red: It's really nothing like the English tango.

    Laura: Me too. Me too.

Fishducky: Yes, this is one of the lighter dances.

Damyantiwrites: Thanks for stopping and commenting.

Julie, It's nice of you to stop by.

Terry: Thanks and Happy Easter to you and your family, too.

Irene: Thanks for following the Flamenco. Happy Easter to you and your family. Love and peace.

Hootie Hoot: Love that name. Yes, dancing is fun. Sometimes a few lessons can give confidence.

Love to everyone and Happy Easter.

  19. Love the Tango. On BBC's Strictly Come Dancing (my favourite TV programme) the tango is my very favourite to watch.

  20. I love watching dance and this is a fantastic one; unfortunately I can't dance a lick but hey, I admire it in others...beautiful video!

    Have a wonderfully splendid Easter!

  21. I'm a big fan of dance. Thanks for putting up this example. I had no idea that tango had it's own variations. I just love watching it! I don't know if you're a fan of "Dancing with the Stars", but Donny Osmond's tango a few seasons back set the screen on fire! I'd love to take dance lessons...but alas, at this time my budget doesn't allow it. Then there's the pesky problem of The Engineer (my hubby) doesn't dance. Period. So finding an appropriate partner is also troublesome. Sigh.
Thanks so much for your visit and comment at Life is Good. This challenge sure has been fun ~ met so many wonderful people.

  22. P.S What kind of ducks are you offering? I might be interested. The men in my family hunt...

  23. I've never been a dancer, but I love watching it. That was a great video. Her hands were mesmerizing. I scrolled down to look at some of your other posts. That little five year old dancer was amazing!

  24. Sensuous indeed - with those wonderful, flowing hand movements. I only really knew anything of the tango from Argentina. It was good to learn of another offshoot of, probably, an form going back far into the past.

    I love these entries.

  25. Her hands are beautiful. I thought a tango was when a man and a woman stride with arms outstretched and roses between their teeth. Great video :)

  26. Rosalind: I used to compete in your English Tango

Tracy: Thanks for stopping and the lovely comment.

Tina: I enjoyed your comment. My husband never danced one step but I always had dance partners. You will find men in dance classes whose wives don't like to dance and you can partner up. My favorite program is DWTS. I turn off the phone, get my pen and paper so I can judge for fun and really get into it. I just about always agree with judge Len, my favorite.
Name, "Wanna buy a duck" comes from an old expression from the 30's by Joe Penner.

Darlene: Thanks for visiting. I too, can watch any form of dance.

KJM: Yes, the Flamenco tango goes back to unknown roots.

Niki: I guess that is the stereotype tango... always the thorny rose in the teeth. Ouch. :)

Thank you everyone for your much appreciated coments. Manzanita

that, this is great blog. A fantastic read. I will certainly be back.
